As far as color palette, PNG does permit more than 256 colors
BZZZZZTT.
PNG supports 256 pallleted like GIF, and also supports full 24bit colour. I save most of my images now as.PNG instead of.TIF because of the smaller file sizes.
However....I'm not sure if PNG supports an alpha channels at 24 bit.
I'm sorry, but movies made my David Fincher could hardly be described as the worst in Hollywood. If Katz was reviewing the new Britney Spears movie, then yes.
I never sync mine, ever. I back it up, yes, but I never "trade" updates between a desktop application and my PDA.
While of course not everyone syncs their PDAs. I think you will find that you are in a small minority. So the origonal poserter is right when he say that syncing is something the a PDA should do well.
Two of which have no business on a PDA. Why would I use a tiny keyboard to type in stuff into bash or vim?
Of course they have business on a PDA. But only if it does PDA stuff well to, as that's more of a proirity to most PDA users.
Unfortunanty is seems like this Sharp PDA doesn't have it's priotities straight....Unless it just aimed at harcore linux users as a tinker toy.
While I agree with what you are saying. The origonal poster made it seem as if these people were just plain weak, always have been, and always will be. That simply isn't true.
Ever hear of insurance? You can cover the cost of personal items in home owners or renters insurance but you have to itemize and spend time listing what you want insured. Would you expect Dell to replace your PC (not saying you have a Dell) if your house burned down? No, you would either call your insurance agent or pony up and buy a new PC if you didn't have insurance.
Not everything can be replaced with money. What about all the CDs that I have that are very hard to get hold of now? Sure, I would have the money to by them again if they were ever stolen. but it would be a huge inconvenice to track them all down again from various places. And some I might never be able to find again.
Not to mention that fact that I might have no music for a while! I'd go insane.
Did you ever think of taking care of your crap? I have CDs that are ~20 years old and they play just as well as the day they were purchased. Why? Because I treat them carefully, even when transporting them.
No matter how much I take care of my CD's. It still doesn't prevent:
- People breaking into my car and stealing them.
- My house burning down, getting brocken into etc.
- People using my CDs who aren't as careful as I am with them.
Do you get pissed at the car manufacturer because your car could be damaged in a wreck and ask them for a replacement? You don't? Of course not, because you either drive carefully (take care of your crap) or you hope the other guy has insurance.
Do you even know what the definition of an analogy is?
A much better analogy would be the car manufacturer not letting your panel beater repair the car by themselves, and instead being forced to by spare parts from the manufacturer because creating you own parts would infringe on trademarks etc.
What If I don't own the CD, And I'm at a friends place, and pop it in their computer. Or they bring their CD's over in a cd book to play at my house. Unless those warnings on the CD it's self are damn obvious, then it would be easy to accidently pop in a "protected" CD.
Yeah, right. It'll never happen. Could you imagine if the machine was within walking distance of the local music store? 1 kid buys a CD, 10 kids get copies. It's napster, but moved to sneaker-net.
Oh yeah....I can really see kids standing there for over one hour and 40 minuets doing nothing.
Hmm... I spose they could take turns. Beats stealing produce from the local dariy or teasing next-door's cat though. Kids will be kids.
I'm sure if you go to one of the machines, stand right in front of it, and look around. You'll see the barrel of a snipers rifle pointing in you general direction....Plus some faint blood stains on the ground, and down the front of the machine, left behind from the badly done clean-up job of the last satisfied customer.
Of course, they wait untill you pay and make the copy....Can't miss out on the $$$ from the CD-R tax now can we?
...Then they'd get it to make 'a few last copies' of some norrible Neil-Diamond-like CDs for them, before they open it up, and steal all the blank CD's. In the morning, someone will come across a vending machine hanging from a telephone pole by it's powercord, begging to be let down. "I was just doing my job".
Oh yeah... I'm sure you want get into trouble by breaking the packaging open. Which most people won't do. And if they don't have any packaging, then they usaly store the CD's seperate anyway.
While I'm here:
The people who are really costing the big lables money are real software pirates who have lots of copiers, pump out heaps of them, and sell them to other people for money. Anyone telling me that they people would ever use a machine like this has been smoking an illegal substance....They would never bother. It costs too much per CD, is slower, probably no choice in what the CD looks like, and might be a bit too obvious.
[Cop] "What are you doing?"
[SW pirate] "Just making some backup CD's"
[Cop] "100?"
[SW pirate] "Uh... yes... My house get broken into all the time"
[Cop] "That oftern?! That's pretty serious. I think I should come over and have a look, see what the problem might be"
[SW pirate] "Uhhh..."
Your right there. But I think my point was that you can't just label someone who is suicidal weak, because sometimes, a mental illness is just a chemicl imbalance. The person could still have a very strong personality if you will. A chemical imbalance can be easly fixed today, so I think it's a little silly so label someone as weak because of it.
It's kinda like saying that a Mac truck is a weak truck, just because it's timing is out and needs to be fixed. It's still a powerfull truck, it just has a small problem that is affecting it in a major way.
When did I say anything about the coffee exactly? I didn't. Don't make up stuff that's not there.
Maybe you should read my post again:
You can't compare all these warning on the same level. The reason a warning might be important, is usaly to warn about something that might not be obvious. Standing in front of a bus has rather obvious consequences. On the other hand, alot of people wouldn't ever think that a computer game could be addictive. A simple waring wouod be a good idea.
Yes, some warnings are on the silly side, but these kinda things are never black an white, and in todays society, alot of people would rather cover alot of the grey area well, then risk getting sued....aswell and protect some of the not-so-intelligent amoung us;)
I never said anything specificly about the coffee warning being silly or not.
Who mods this crap up? Score 2 for a pointless post based on stuff I never said? 3 cheers for/.
Why not simply: "Warning - Computer games can be addictive. We suggest you take a 1 week break if you are playing more than X hours a week. More info on gamming addiction can be found on our web site at: http://blah.com"
Hardly invokes the same 'awesome' feeling if you ask me. But will make the user think twice about going on another 10 hour, non-stop gamming session.

Oh, look, she *does* care! A lawsuit will give her the "answers she desires" so much more quickly than creating an account, logging in and asking around. She certainly wouldn't want to ask for help in rec.games.computer.everquest, or do a google search for player registries.
Once again another/.er has completely forgotten what the real world is like. The idea of logging into his account, or searching the net proabably never came within a mile of her head, for christ's sake. All she knows, is that the company who made the game that her son played it Sony, so she's asking them.
I don't know whether to find this scary or just ironic. Bars stink of tobacco and booze breath, and their purpose is to serve people an intensely addictive substance. This is better than EverQuest just exactly how?
I think we all know that the bar was probably just an example.
The headine should really read: "Mother attmpts to force warning on games after son's suicide".
Maybe she also wants money to, but the main reason seems to be that she want warning lables to hopefully (although I'm not sure it going to help much) prevent similar incidents occuring.
She also wants sony to give her data that might help explain exacty what happend. But Sony are't goning it to her. And as helpfully as it my be, they shoudn't because it would be a breach of the privacy policy that her son agreed to.
That the most ignorant self-indulgent BS that I have ever read.
What makes a person weak? You seem to say it as if anyone who commits suidide is a feeble and weak person. Are you somehow much stronger and better person than all these people that commit suicide?

Or a Japanese whaling ship that's decimating an endangered species?
Bonus points if it can do both at the same time.

This is prolly a silly question. I've heard of indie before... as in indie rock etc. But what exactly is it? Short for independant?
That is purly limited by the microphone.
Hmm... I spose they could take turns. Beats stealing produce from the local dariy or teasing next-door's cat though. Kids will be kids.
