health care, chained to desk till 65, after that consultant, set own rates. pensions are clearly not enough to cover health care. when 65 get medicare.
Why stop at the games? Why not doping for IT? I mean we dedicate our lives to a craft much the same way an athlete dedicates their life. Ever since the baseball steroid scandal broke I have been asking about the use of enhancers in IT, admittedly much to the response of some pretty strange looks but hey I can take it...
i'm glad that slashdot asked this question. truly, thank you.
to fix, first, stop the mantra that more govt/muni spending is needed. stop, we are broke from education spending. let's wrestle the politics of vouchers being evil from the political parties and get back to growing private education. i'm not saying stop the govt/muni education systems but let's add a few more systems.
second, how about applying some context to science students. some people are so far out of the loop and on the fringe they may not even know the scientific method let alone how to start a bunsen(sp?) burner. for instance, how about twice/three/four times a month the student from middle or high school goes and actually works in a college or commercial lab. by work I mean let them clean glass or do xeroxing but get paid. maybe not pay in the pocket but pay that can pay for the fees of their science education. also, the US system does a good job of finding the best/brightest and moving them through the system with the right resources. what i would suggest is to apply this type system with people who are the most at risk, never ever had a chance, and who would have the lowest expectations of work such that they would not expect anything and be costly employees.
returned to college after 15 years out and was glad to find that half.com, and I am sure there are others, offers textbooks at often more than half the price of books in the bookstore. Was this not an option for the submitter? missing something? but I am surprised to know that books have only begun to appear on p2p.
not sure that paying public school teachers more is the answer, although if you look at the retirement system in your state you will see that a lot of teachers rank as the highest benefits at least that's how it is in NY State. also, the amount teachers are paid is really a function of how much a community can afford via their tax base. and then there is the kicker that if we have all high paid teachers what happens if you do not have students who do not want to or are capable to learn? exactly, huge tax bills and low student achievement is all you get. also, you get the extra back load from having groups of teens leaving school unprepared to compete with low wage foreign labor.
my guess is the answer is that more money has to be spent on students from the zero to three years old age.
i agree that math exams have been sweetened for the general population but on the other hand the fast-track students, you know the ones that show up, care, and make large efforts, on a daily basis have access to more now than ever. i have two in a inner-city public school that is notorious for under-achieving, although this is changing, but has phenomenal tech roots believe it or not but is masked by the under-achievers, and this is what I see.
amen! I know the interface has changed so that probably creates a ton of stress for like 80% of the users but imo it seems light-years better than xp or 2k. also, ms office 2007 is the best yet but it also changed the interface so it must not be acceptable.
don't shut down, just send to hibernate, not sleep, hibernate. no need to restart pc each day. hibernate gives vista a more tv like operation. also, don't cheap out on the ram...:-)
Vista Hibernate/btw, sleep is good but hibernate is better for overnight.
right now, i feel like i am in the middle of a cell phone conversation since a person near me is for no uncertain reason shouting into their cell phone. is it possible for att to take the phones but leave the booths?
there is often plenty of electrical power gen, albeit some of it quite polluting but a lot that is not like hydro, but there is almost always a lack of transmission lines, think lack of modern tech and tons of lawyers/nimbys. investing in alt power gen is great but their needs to be lines to deliver it. also, not only are there a lack of lines a lot of power is lost in transmission. also, lack of transmission lines is the largest current contributing factor to the rise in electrical rates since the decision who gets to deliver power is decided in an auction that makes ebay look like kids stuff. this is no cakewalk. i wish googlers well.
"I'm still trying to figure out where the cards were mailed from, to see if it was somewhere near TN."
In my area, it was the postal carrier that was snagging the cards out of the mail. so you know. it may help you backtrack. also just call those places to cancel/reverse the charges.
not sure of your situation but you will need some basic accounting and budgeting background. also good to know how to read income statement and balance sheet.
"It allows poor people to get a university degree, and so build a better future for themselves and their children."
umm, yea, maybe you have not been to america. an education is a great idea that can certainly improve a person's quality of life but so you know excavator, landscapers, and dry-wallers typically do a lot better in regards to income than your typical degree toting engineer.
but why do I see a ton of women working in oil change and auto repair shops these days. i can't imagine that these areas have less of a locker-room mentality.
I recommend office 2007 over open office; it's just that much better. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are quite good. Also, the education edition installs on 3 computers and costs about $120 shipped from Amazon; or $40 per computer which is not bad. If anything the schools should offer Linux Server cert, not that crappy desktop stuff, alongside of the Cisco, Oracle, and MS certs they offer now.
So people understand everyone in the US gets health care already. They go to the hospital emergency room. No hospital, except the catholic hospitals, refuse care. I am sure there are exceptions to this rule since the US is a very large place but here in the 12345 no one is refused care even at the catholic hospital, except for one but they just ship you to another facility.
So people understand, this may make big news and may sound like a major shift in thinking but MA already was paying for a Statewide health plan, it's called medicare/medicaid.
take the classes. get comp sci degree. then get an mba. don't stop. will you be happy if you do nothing? exactly...
health care, chained to desk till 65, after that consultant, set own rates. pensions are clearly not enough to cover health care. when 65 get medicare.
should the wgc shun the drugs like the olympics or should it embrace? btw, what about enhancers, even steroids, for i.t.?
a photo album. store as analog. preserve. let future people(?) translate to digital in the format of the day.
the high cost of electricity is not due to lack of generation, it's due to lack of transmission.

I asked this same question when the baseball ped issues hit the newspapers. Why not ped in it?

nothing better, games made for PC platform +1, games made for consoles but run under emulator on PC +2...

...is the new affordable living in the U.S. Everywhere that has it also has high cost of everything. Great.

kids say email is dead... adults who operate biz say we need better email...
