I heard about software defined radio 3+ decades ago. Now in the the last year there have been several things on the market. The simplest is a USB dongle that can pick up (old) weather satellite bands.

  3. Most solutions will cause the planet to warm further. The BIG government sponsored efforts tried and have failed 1) treaties ( never signed) and not obeyed and counter productive 2) Ethanol in US -- Barely produces 3 times the energy used to create it, 3) Wind in Germany designed to produce 30+% of their needs and only produces 16% and HUGE lignite coal plants 4) Pushing production away from western countries that care about pollution (and God given human rights) to such places as China 5) More socialism more government control

What can work?1) Solar thermal heating for every house and business 2) I do like fertilizing the oceans 3)capitalism 3) Wood and dung(for cooking and heating) is by far the biggest renewable and it does not get mentioned

  4. For the last 3 million years the earth's climate has been dominated by cold -->glaciers. We are right not at the tale end of a 10-13K year warm period. When that ends it could be 100,000+ years before the earth warms again. Rome had its height when the earth was warmer than now. look up Grand solar minimum. Melt.

Burning wood and dung account for huge amounts of renewables around the world. Far far more than energy from wind and photovoltaics. This is not mentioned. Have any of their policies been Successful? Ethanol for cars barely produces more the 3X factor of the energy consumed. Shipping production to China? blah blah blah. Better solutions exist: 1) Solar thermal heating is cost effective and produces more energy than consumed with out subsidies 2) Capitalsit are far better stewards of the environment than any communist/socialist even dreams of. 3) Private property rights are critical for reducing poverty

Cavitation is a another limit to how big a 21st century traditional windmill can be. Most windmills cut out around 25 MPH again limiting the power they can produce. Germany designed their windmills for total output of 32% of their power alas on a yearly basis only achieved 20% or so. Kites are an additional alternative. Winds are better between 500 feet and up to 3000 feet. The cost of string AND WEIGHT is relatively cheap compared to the large towers today. Less work has been done to harness that power.

I make maple syrup on a *very* small scale in a major city. This "scientific" article is all bunk. 1) First, large scale maple producers already know that watering the trees while tapping helps production. If global warming from politicians hot air continues towards long term winter droughts,, Maple bushes can be irrigated. 2) There are over 3000 variety of maples right now and the sugar industry is growing out hybrids that can produce close to a 10% sugar content sap ( normal is 2%) Nature will provide drought tolerant if needed. 3) no-one uses pails. Maple syrup production is hi-tech: reverse osmosis is amazing 4) North America has an over-abundance of maple trees and syrup production 5) What is not mentioned that is serious potential for maple blight like oak wilt to destroy a lot trees 6) Canada 's political socialized maple syrup production does more harm to producers that climate change ever will Sure I only make about 7 gallons a year but I know more than these blowhards
