I think people also forget they are training a future adult. It's easy to constrain, but harder to train. Your point is also good, your ability to constrain is never as good as you think it is.
I understand the desire to know where your kid is all the time, but independence is a big part of growing up.
Progressives don't object to keeping things the same, we just want to verify assumptions are backed with accurate data. What assumptions are being carried forward that are based on bad (intentionally?) data and then used to form a basis for keeping the status quo?
Well, what do you expect parents to do? Talk to their kids, learn their routines, get to know their friends, engage with them daily? or... just slap a tracker on them and call it good, it's the tech version of the leash you see on kids.
American's pay more then 33% in taxes, when you count the hidden parts. They pay a large percentage to private insurance companies, and a large part is hidden and payed by employers, to SS and again private insurance companies.
If you have a grill that needs someone in front of it all day long, they should be paid a livable wage. If you can't afford that, you can't afford to be in business. Why should we subsidize businesses that are killing other businesses by abusing their employees to undercut on price.
Plenty of poor people have both of those in spades, they don't have space or a car. Most costco's aren't on the busline. Furthermore, most poor people can't afford to buy 6 months of soap at once. It's the cheapest way to buy, but only if you have enough excess cash flow. The opportunity cost of buying 6 months of soap is too high for many poor people. In many places, buying your average american bottle is too expensive, that's why single serving sachets are so popular in poorer countries.
Low-income is a thing. I'll break it down two different ways that I've experienced.
scenario 1
Not enough money coming in, account eventually gets overdrafted and closed. You owe the bank money. No other bank will open an account for you.
scenario 2
you make enough money, but can't afford the float. You don't have direct deposit. if you deposit your paycheck, it will take 2+ days to clear. That's business days, so Friday deposit shows up next Wed. Meanwhile, you can cash your check at the check wal-mart for a low fee and have your cash for the weekend.
Go with an x86 device, there are several decent fanless ones with HDMI around $100. Or you can get a used one. I run win10 in tablet mode, because it streams everything and runs kodi; but it's nice to have the option to run Linux.
I could never get hbo go and netflix to both work on Linux, but this was at least 3 years ago.:(
I have an old HP stream box that runs windows 10 in tablet mode. It makes a great set-top box. I'm thinking of getting one of these. for my other tv's, since the stream box is no more. This is not much more then a Roku and does way more.
I don't store anything locally, I run an openSuse box that acts as a NAS for the home and gives me torrenting or anything else I want.
I have an hp stream box with Win10. I run it in tablet mode and it streams anything, runs Kodi and doesn't make any noise. I got it off craigslist afew years ago and it's discontinued.
Today, I'd go with something like this. It's so much nicer to have a full pc that I can do what I want with.

Advertising is like paying people to tell you your clothes look funny and your too ugly. I get that at home, thanks.

For example.

People are frozen at the age they first become wealthy. He sees the world through a lens of his own making.
Doesn't the Trump tax plan allow you to skip those 5 to 7 years and get the write-off now?

This really pisses me off. Sometimes the models aren't just different sizes, there can be very significant differences and the still mix the reviews.
Chase used to have a really good pre-paid debit, chase liquid. Looks like they discontinued it. Looks like 5/3 has a decent one still.

Anyone try philo? Looks like pricing is much better.
Great talking point, but school spending does create better outcomes. The best US schools have excellent results. They have had excellent results for a long time. The students we are failing are mostly poor and non-white. This is probably by design, but has been improving slowly.
I use DIY tax. It's provided by liberty tax (those guys with the dancing statue of liberty out front) and doesn't seem to bug me about upgrading.
This year it wouldn't let me e-file my state return, so I mailed it in.
I have 6 kids, so when I file early my return gets delayed due to congress enacting some law the prevents me from getting a return until mid-feb.
For the price of an appletv I can get a small x86 box with win10 (or put linux on it).
I run win10 in tablet mode for my tv and it works great. I can stream from anything, and use kodi for my locally stored content. (local to my network)
Yeah, KDE is all we ever needed
In my experience, the command line won't return to a prompt until the copy is complete.
Except force bundling.
On Philo, can you skip commercials on dvr'd programs? I assume it's some sort of "cloud dvr"?

and rpm's , and basic tar.gz.
I used it some when I ran opensuse as my desktop. It was pretty good for viewing json files.
