  1. Re:Skip the whole marriage nonsense on Diamonds - Are They Really Worth the Cost? · · Score: 1

i agree. i'm married and our relationship just got worse after we got married. What did marriage accomplish? Nothing. We've talked about it and both agree we would be happier not being married. Don't assume that the next "logical" step in your relationship is marriage. The next step is probably to get to know her intimately. You can never know someone perfectly because its a moving target but get to know her innermost desires and thoughts. If you can communicate at that level you will be happier than engaging in silly societal games like marriage.

That is very cool you should be commended and more people do things like this. I think that your tree shows more love and caring that a million rocks dug out of the mud.

When my truck was stolen the cop admitted to me that they wouldn't find it. That they probably wouldn't look for it. I was told it was being ripped into its component parts at that very moment and shipped to other countries in containers. He knew so much about where my car was and where it was going yet could do ANYTHING? about it? There should be cops searching those shipping containers instead of prosecuting victimless crimes!

Since motherboards are getting more and more standard with built in video/sound/lan/usb/etc etc
With some MBs you don't even need to put ANY additional components.
Why doesn't some chinese manufacturer make some standard MB/chassis/battery/ flat panel connector/video controller
and sell them to the enthusiast market.
There are laptop manufacturers that are using standard desktop components in laptops just for the desktop replacement market and I don't understand why some company hasn't seen the potential in this market.
Standardization built the PC market. Whoever standardizes the laptop market could make a killing.
This would help linux out a lot because laptops would be available from the same mom and pop computer shops that provide a lot of the linux market with converts. No more M$ tax! plus make yourself a cool laptop.
Of course the chassis would have to fit the screen size and build quality would be iffy but the possibilities are endless just like on a desktop PC.

  7. cash keeps costs DOWN. on How Feasible is a Cash-Less Society? · · Score: 1

Here in canada almost all computer stores won't accept Credit cards without charging you the 1.5 - 2.5% interest that the CC company charges them. Think about the local hardware/restaurant/florist/assorted small business owner who is simply including these charges into everything you buy. While large corps can negotiate a .00002% charge for themselves with the CC companies/banks. Paying with cash levels the playing field for small business. Its well know here in Canada that paying with cash will net you a large discount if you ask for it, especially when paying for services. The government even had ads on TV featuring a hooded middle class white collar worker talking about paying with cash. It branded paying with cash/not asking for a receipt/asking not to pay tax/or avoiding tax as a criminal act. I was very upset that my tax dollars were going to pay for such mindless drivel. In summary. Having a intermidiary for all your transactions only increases the price of the transaction. Cash cuts out the middleman banker.
