well you need to remeber its still linux -
and while the debian based installer might not be as bullet proof as redhat's or suse's, I have had decent luck with it durning installs on dual boot machines.
I think the reasons Ubuntu has gained some much popularity are:
focus on making a small subset of packages work(gnome, core gnome apps, hal, xorg)
I was on a Northwest flight from det->fra and was trying to watch a movie using the in-flight video on demand system, when to my surpised the client rebooted and what did i see but a lill' penguin in the corner! -- my guess is that the 'server' on the plane that serves the menus and movies gets overloaded when the flight staff activates the video system -- and there must be some timeout that occurs and the client reboots. Unfortunatly i was not able to see what kind of hardware was driving the LCD displays.
whoops- that one is wireless -- but it looks like they have changed the layout -- my ibm point-stick keyboard has the pointing device in the middle of the keyboard
you're a mean one, Mr. Slashdot, You really are a heel, You're as cuddly as a cactus, You're as charming as an eel, Mr. Slashdot. You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel!
You're a monster, Mr. Slashdot, Your heart's an empty hole, Your brain is full of spiders, You've got garlic in your soul, Mr. Slashdot. I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole!
You're a foul one, Mr. Slashdot, You have termites in your smile. You have all the tender sweetness Of a seasick crocodile, Mr. Slashdot. Given the choice between the two of you I'd take the seasick crocodile!
You're a rotter, Mr. Slashdot, You're the king of sinful sots, Your heart's a dead tomato splotched With moldy purple spots, Mr. Slashdot. You're a three decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce!
You nauseate me, Mr. Slashdot, With a nauseous super "naus", You're a crooked dirty jockey And you drive a crooked hoss, Mr. Slashdot. Your soul is an appalling dump heap Overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of rubbish imaginable Mangled up in tangled up knots!
You're a foul one, Mr. Slashdot, You're a nasty wasty skunk, Your heart is full of unwashed socks, Your soul is full of gunk, Mr. Slashdot. The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote, "Stink, stank, stunk!" ~
I was suprised to hear were I work they are dropping NFS in favor of SMB. The reason I was given was that SMB has better permissions/access rights across all platforms.

i think i would pay for google , if they cached and googleized my previous searches.. one example of this would be... if i searched for 'java api string' it would only show me url's that i had selected in a previous query.. most of times i can not be bothered to add another bookmark , and google is so fast and accurate that i feel it it faster then looking through my bookmarks .. I do feel guilty about wasting their and my employers bandwidth because im to lazy to boorkmark a site...
