That's indeed a shame. There are people in any group who claim to be members or supporters of that group, but don't act accordingly (the infamous hypocrites). They are found in religions, companies, politics, and even the Open Source community. Of course, nobody can claim to be perfect, everyone makes mistakes. I personally think that free service calls under some circumstances could just be considered charitable, as long as the owner was not doing it at the expense of others in the business, and you were still paid your due wages. Just as I hope people don't think of obnoxious script kiddies as representing the Linux and Open Source/Free Software communities, I hope that you can appreciate that the one is not necessarily an example of the many in this case as well.

They'll have no problem competing with Wal-Mart, because they're in a different market. I dream of a world where those intelligent enough to live above their animal instincts can be unbothered by those preferring to wallow in the mire of filth.

Another myth is that Wal-mart is only for fat dimwits. Wal-mart is a good place to buy lots of things cheap, especially where there were no local small-time shops to begin with.

Not everyone who lives in a rural area lives a rural lifestyle. I'm surrounded by lettuce, onion, and carrot fields, and pastures. I'm a computer programmer. Why do I live out here? Because a 5000 square foot home costs $200,000 to build. The home I live in would cost over a million dollars in California. This way I have more money saved in the bank, and I can afford more enjoyable activites.

High speed Internet access is a necessity for me, and e-mail is the primary means of communication for a lot of people around here as far as distant friends and relatives are concerned.

No. HDTV requires a 40MHz IF, analog NTSC needs something like 5 or 6 MHz (can't remember). This is because an HDTV bitstream can be up to ~20mbits/s. HDTV needs more bandwidth, but it's worth it. I think that if the spectrum is given to digital broadcasting, they should be forced to have a minimum 10mbit stream at a minimum resolution of 1280x720P, not like the local Fox and WB affiliates that only broadcast at 704x480i.
