Okay, it's good to know more about this guy, but he's not the author of the book. The simple fact is that TSA is nothing but show. Every time you fly you pay one extra hour of your life to this b.s.

Israeli airports have been dealing with real terrorists for years. Pipes & co. don't help them deal with the threat. What does is solid police work, i.e. knowing the people, and "profiling".

TSA needs to abandon it's after the fact responses, like not letting people carry water. Instead it should start profiling passengers more seriously.

Loser pays isn't that great. It's best to let the courts try to measure some degree of stupidity in the suit.

In a simpler world, an ideal system would be both sides get 15% of the money being paid to the other side's lawyers. But judge's may award court costs in extreme cases. In this way, both sides lawyers have access to some fraction of the funding of the other side, and in particular probono lawyers get paid something. However, this complicates all sorts of problems with lawyers on retainers, contingency, etc.

  8. Re:Wait on Must a CD Cost $15.99? · · Score: 0

A real solution would be embedding banner ads into mp3 info tags. If iTunes and Windows Media would display a small link from the mp3 tag, unless the user turned it off, then bands could have rotating banner ads on screen while their music was playing. Bands could also include rotate through their own artwork with links to their site, cuz it's cool and discourages users from deactivating the links. In this way, the music would appear free, but the band would make money directly on ads, with really very very little overhead. You'd be using some ad company to handle intelligently placing the ads based upon response rate. But sadly this would require the cooperation of Apple & Microsoft. :(

A more realistic approach is to simple give away the mp3s online, but charge for downloads of collections of remixes and CDs by mail. Artists love to fuck around with their songs, serious fans love to hear those other mixes, so there is money there.
