  1. I Thought He Was Taking A Potshot At Yahoo on Google CEO Says Privacy Worries Are For Wrongdoers · · Score: 2, Informative

Having read Yahoo's correspondence with US Marshall's Service regarding price of information and the need to keep it secret, and subsequent correspondence between Yahoo's lawyers and Cryptome, I thought Schmidt was taking a potshot at Yahoo.

The Yahoo lawyer clearly states that the public release of their sale of information to law enforcement would undermine their user's trust regarding privacy. This can only be taken as we don't want them to know that they in fact have none.

When I read that snippet from Schmidt, I immediately thought he was talking about Yahoo. I don't see him as the "if you have nothing to hide" kind of guy.

I think CSI is a load of old bollocks, but each to her own. I watched one episode of David Caruso doing an amazing impression of William Shatner and that was enough for me. I bet none of the chicks on CSI are as nerdy and sexy as Scully!

However, if it gets the masses interested in science and the technology that goes with it, more power to it. It's a hell of a lot better than "reality" tv.

But the real question is what shows are now out there for geeks? There's no more Buffy, X-Files, Xena, or Farscape, and I just can't sink to the depths of The Beastmaster or get interested in Stargate.

Thank God for Netflix. I heard Babylon 5 rocked so I'm going to try that to get my geek tv fix.

This "we could beat you up if we really wanted to" attitude is juvenile, naive, and will probably stop abruptly when the US is nuked, which is a fairly obvious ultimate goal for any terrorist organisation, of which there are many.

So not having children makes a person completely "unqualified" to have an opinion on this subject?

Who died and made you God?

And what makes you the pinnacle of parenting? Being able to electronically tag and track your kids? I'm sure they would love and respect you for the trust you would so obviously be placing in them (or does that not matter to you?). Life is dangerous, and kids need to learn how to live with it, just like we did. If you distrust your kids enough to need one of these, that's your problem - if your kids are bad enough to need one of these, once again I feel it is the parent's problem (until the little demon becomes society's problem, but that's another debate).

I understand that children need protection above that of adults, but what's the matter with giving your kid a cell phone to make sure that both of you can stay in touch with eachother? Seems far more reasonable to me.

Shackling healthy children or adults with devices like these will do nothing but breed fear, paranoia and mistrust in those forced to wear them. I'm not talking about individuals with special needs, and I'm not talking about criminals. I'm talking about regular kids who wouldn't grow up to be regular adults, due to the fabulous parenting of some individual who is too afraid of being sued to trust thier own kids.

Kids are people too, and proper parenting makes decent adults.

As a citizen of the US and the UK, let me enlighten you a little.

The US is pretty disliked everywhere I've been in Europe. The US is seen as the world's bullyboy. You may not like it, but it's the truth. And before you spout the "You're jealous" crap, no-one envies the amount of homicides the US has, the homeless people begging at every turn (and you think of yourselves as civilised), rampant crime in general, the fact that the country is run by corporations and the alarmingly rapid decrease in the rights of the individual. Nor the arrogance of the type you've so proudly spouted.

The American government's complete disregard for the source of the problem is amazing all of the European people I know. Do you really think that the people who perpetrated the attacks just woke up one day and thought "Wow, I really hate the US and will bomb the crap out of innocent civilians"?

Wake up! People have reasons for their actions. They may not be particularly intelligent, or sane, but they *are* reasons, and actions of that magnitude are born of many, many deep-seated reasons. Those people were/are driven beyond our comprehension - those kinds of reasons don't happen overnight. Why do you think they hate the US so much? Have you even thought about it? Or do you just believe what the American media spoon-feeds you - because it sure sounds like you do.

I admire your patriotism, but don't let it blind you to the way of the rest of the world. The "with us or against us" bullshit is juvenile at best and potentially deadly at worst.

"The West" now has a big problem, and the US is feeling the brunt because it is the biggest target.

To put it in a nutshell, pull your head out of your ass and take a look around without your US brand blinders on.
