What I can say to your comment is...

Oh, god. Some people really have too much time.

You claimed installing Fedora was no harder than installing Windows. I believe that is not true. Hence my comments.

    You believe wrong.

That's all I can say, really. There's a reason so many people continue to use MS Office, and it might not be what you think.

Yeah, OO.o can't import some files. And that would be enough for some people. Instead of using native format.

Don't get me wrong, i'd have nothing but good-will towards an actual free rival, but none of the products i've seen are at that level yet.

What you're describing windows as is gods gift.

Last time I checked XP, they were far from that too.
    Not really friendly,
no HIG whatsoever (XP and Office 2003???? wtf????),
    virus prone,
    spyware prone.
Start menu without any sense. (why the fuck does every software have to make his submenu, can't M$ just make some restrictions base on software type?)
Control panels that mess up configuration to level of insanity (things can be done simpler you know).
Ultra friendly network browser that never displays what I wuold like, only what I wouldn't like.) You obviously don't know how network neighborhood looks when you enter into 50-100 computer network - yeah, I like those quadzillion shares and zillion printers that windows automount)

Oh yes. Getting slower with time.

And most of all my dear dorothy. Why the fuck there's no simple way to stop desktop notifications? (don't offer registry key or tweakit, you were talking about grandma)

You said you use antivirus, ad-aware and firefox. Does typical grandma install these?? Or she just uses what system offers?

p.s. I bet you buy software you use:)

  2. Re:Wouldn't agree on GIMP Interface Proposals? · · Score: 1

I don't know if you'll read but here's the answer:)

I use 3x22" monitors (:Ok, I'm spoiled:). Photoshop fits on maybe 1 and 1/2 maybe at best. While Gimp works acros all monitors (talking about Linux version). That's why everybody uses 1x22" and 1x15" monitor for PS. More would be a waste. You whine about covering toolbar, I whine about covering pictures :)

Personaly, I hate MDI approach. It sucks major. First time you'll be able to use some software across 3 monitors you'll know exactly why I hate PS interface and all the troubles that MDI brings.

Second major bug are toolbar windows. Instead of implementing simple icon, Adobe had to put whole text for name (and even use additional waste space as this wouldn't be enough). And as such you can combine at most 3 toolwindows in one. Otherwise it would take too much space. (Yes, I know you can stack them on top, but what annoyance this is. Having 2GB of RAM , but still... pictures were redrawing always when I pulled down any toolwindow, Unusable. Yes pictures I work on are bigger than 150MB)

In gimp my favourite layout is havint two full height toolbars. Left and Right. This is the only way to have layers full height and more visible on screen.

    Gimp bugs:
The only thing that I used to hate was lack of global shortcuts. Before 2.2 version you had to select picture and then press shortcut, now this bug is GONE, Gimp is passing shortcuts to last selected picture.

p.s. I just couldn't go back to Aplha channels as PS implements them (but first, let me admit I haven't tried 7 or CS). And yes, rotating brushes, roating brushes, rotating brushes

p.p.s. I don't work on prepress. (if I would, then Gimp wouldn't suit my needs anyway) My job is mostly drawing (using wacom) for my personal pleasure and websites

M$ is something I won't stop using. Mostly because of how much of $ I already spent on their products. It's not like I would appreciate them, more like I'm forced to use them. Not even a single software did its job like it should. Maybe that's a difference when you own a company and you have to buy all software that you use.

p.s. It was talk about laptop. Not every computer. I have 12 (2 apple) of them + notebook. You wouldn't believe how expensive software can be for such little ammount of computers. That's why I think that I earned my privilege to write M$ (take in question that I'm mostly one person company)

Face it people, as much as you may hate their business practices, MS makes some very good products

Did I miss some product or what? For now they all sucked

I really wonder how many people flame "M$" online using IE on a computer running Windows XP

    Answer is simple:)
    1. All users that are not satisfied
    2. All users forced to use them at job
    3. All ITs that have seen too much of broken things and they are pissed off.
    4. Me. When making some tasks at customers that last more time and I'm too lazy to take out my notebook.
