I always ATH0'd my modem when it saw that someone dropped. Sometimes your fossil would not play well with your OS, BBS, Frontdoor, etc, etc. The easiest way to deal with a modem hanging for any odd reason was to bring it back to default and to then re-init it as the BBS shuttles back out to frontdoor.

Some of my USR init strings were HUGE. They made me feel hellacool.

  2. Admin Interface on SSH Secure Services on Windows 2K/XP? · · Score: 1

I have built an online web portal for just these things (In perl). BTW, for Windbloze, use cygwin.

It is an administrative interface that lets you enter the name or ip of an ssh server, a username, and password. From there, you login and it gives you a directory listing of the home dir of the user (on the remote system) via a web based file manager. It has editting capabilities, delete, copy, archive, mail, etc, etc, etc, and runs without any java, javascript, frames, or cookies. Just straight HTML 3.0.....

It's really great, but I have not finished it yet, the major parts are done, but I don't want to let it out till it's 100%.

Also, it has a webterm that I made, and will let you travel the tree easily (in file view mode). It will be up in a couple of months and I will post it on freshmeat.net

The site that hosts most of my stuff is

    http://www.fixyoursink.net

One of the coolest web apps that I have made is popdot. It's an emailer that was built off of ATDOT, and is a simple emailer front end for your apached web server. You specify the pop server and your pop users can login and check mail, send mail, send attachements etc etc... All of this once again without java junk or any of the other "web pitfalls" that the major corps have "devised".

    Peace.

Hmmm... Isn't a Trojan Horse supposed to look appealing?

Then they prattle about how they want the "Vendors" to be responsible. Who pays?

We make the bugs, they ship them. They don't need a bill for this either I bet. No wrangling around in a senate because it is a good for them thing.

Nice manuevering by the gov and corps. Doens't anyone understand why they get to take the money? Because they are "Smoove" enough to be able to get at it. And we are all sheep.

  4. Whats up sis? on Project Rainbow - 802.11 Across the U.S. · · Score: 1

Are you all so shallow as to not understand why they are doing this? They don't want FREE lans everywhere so they would of course want to enforce who uses it when etc etc... $$$$ is the bottom line but they need to be able to say to the gov, "hey, we have these here, they should pay us $$$ for access charges because we have already invested $$$$ in this.."

Something maybe like those charges on my phone bill. They call them "Long distance access charges". I don't even have long distance but still get nailed for it. They understand that there is a limited amount of time in hand to "claim this" (Wireless freenet grid).

The money that we invest in it, we can kiss goodbye because we won't legally be able to share (like cable, do you pay for the tap or for a "family household").

Fuck them. My thinkpad that I bought is my first and last (The mouse constantly moves 6 cm to the right under linux anways, even in software mode. They don't have an answer but say they "back linux". Bullshit.)

I'll be going out to get my new netgear 802.11a access point tomorrow (heres to happy drive by hacking on my anonymous network hehe, and to a free neighborhood of IP).

BTW, you COULD recoup the cost of your high speed connection by having a charity fund in the neighborhood. Until the time that everyone is wireless of course (Which is what they are afraid of).

  5. Re:Rebuttals of some of those points on MS Palladium Patent · · Score: 1

And what's with saying it's like switching from Windows to Linux? First, what the fook is wrong with linux bitch?

There are far fewer applications currently available for Linux, and hence you are limited in what you can do with it. If you can't see the parallels to the DRM scenario, and the problems potentially created, I'm afraid you really aren't looking very hard.

You have him on a lot of points, but when you say that there are fewer apps currently available for linux, you are dead wrong....

Remember, this is a variation of UNIX (The ultimate free version, freebsd bitches go home, you know who you are ;-) )

I have been using GNU/Linux for over 6 years now and have had NO problem finding applications for Linux, they have matured very well over the years. In fact, goto freshmeat.net and see the postings of all the new software that they list. You will find mine under "popdot", a non-java, non-javascript, non cookie, pop-3 email gateway for isps et al.

Really, when I do a search for linux apps, I find tons of them, and 90% are free. Besides, all the windows software that there is sucks. I'm an MCSE (a REAL one) and I got so sick of OUTLOOK dying on me on send that I started to write in notepad first so that I could save it, then cut and past it into outlook to send it. I can't tell you how much more productive I became after I finally loaded lin on my work machine (4 years ago). After that it was just a matter of manhandling my NT servers from my linux workstation (samba, telnet, etc, etc, etc)

I did re-install Windows once at home withing that 6 years, but after I installed it I just sat there and looked at the screen dumbfounded. I didn't know what to do with the machine since I couldnt name one windows application that I wanted to run. Funny thing is that when you are an MCSE and work for a company that is a partner with ms, you get ALL of their software fore FREE. I had practically every piece of m$ software at my fingertips (Server and workstation) and didnt want to use any of it, not to mention all the other software that I had accumulated in my previous life as a sysop.

Visio? Pahh. Try xfig. IE? Try Mozilla. WIMP? Try GTV. Winamp? Try xmms. Adobe? Try XPDF. The list goes on an on.

Oh, another thing. My cdrom ejects in, not just out. eject -l :-) Why doesnt yours? Your supported right? Well, now I'm starting to rant so I better shut up since I have nothing against you and you probably hate DRM as much or more than I do.

You should try linux one day. We have the way out.
