Was it a rip-off of CP/M? Absolutely. QDOS implemented calls identically to CP/M with the specific aim of being as close to CP/M as possible. In other words, as Patterson him self said, he read through Kildalls manual and tried to create something that functioned identically.
And also (as finally confirmed in the Google-Oracle case) copying an API is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
That doesn't logically work though. Either the spectators are staying away from the centre and going to the Olympic park, and therefore the GP post about this being some massive deterrent is rubbish, or they are deterred and would be expected to be somewhere else... like the shops.
Privacy disappears because people don't value it. If they did, they wouldn't be using Facebook for all their communications. If they cared, they'd be using encrypted point-to-point VOIP for voice, not Skype. If they cared, they would be using OTR and Pidgin for chat.
It's all very well sitting there talking about people not caring, but people have other things to do, and frankly it's not unreasonable to want methods of communication to be as easy as possible. Skype became popular because it worked behind firewalls without configuration when all other VOIP needed ports forwarding and other fiddling. Facebook took over messaging because it is similarly much easier to find and keep track of people without managing your own address book for hundreds of changable addresses. I honestly *still* don't know how to do encrypted email, it's just not clear.
We as an industry haven't given people easy ways to do these things. It is *our* fault, not theirs.
So you were trying to prove his point by stating you needed an additional adapter to do what you wanted since the standard cable wouldn't?
Um... you only need the adapter if you plug it into a TV that doesn't have it. Presumably a dock for a phone designed for the purpose would have the MHL built-in, in the same way that any current Apple dock has to have special stuff built in to deal with their proprietary protocols.
Except for the fact that most phones don't really advertise Android. Android really only has clout in the geek-sphere.
I can't agree, atleast not in the UK. The greed droid mascot is all over the place in phone shops, and it's fairly well pushed that an Android thing is a 'good' thing because it leads to apps, etc.
Calm down. Then direct your hatred towards the patent system.
NO! Fuck this! Apple does not *have* to act the way they are acting. Just because you *can* do something does not mean you *have* to do something.
I am fed up with the "amoral company" being a defence for this bullshit. Companies are run by people. People have morals. People can choose the things they do. HOLD THEM TO ACCOUNT.
And patents in their current form... Apple should be careful where they have their successes, if the general population start becoming aware of the silly system that is in place (and getting a very high-profile popular phone banned is a pretty good way) then reform is going to gain traction.
My Nexus One was orphaned at Gingerbeard. I mean, I understand the technical reasons why they couldn't fit Ice Cream Sammich on there (flash partitioning issue), but it's still irritating.
The device is more than two years old now, though, so I guess it getting left behind isn't that unexpected.
I'd prefer that than what I've seen from a serveral iPhone 3G owners now, an upgrade into uselessness. Their phones are so slow with the new OS that they are virtually unusable.
Why does NewEgg get a free pass on this? Sounds like they sold you a drive falsely advertised as having a 5 year warranty. I would surely blame NewEgg as much if not more than Seagate.
However, *they have yanked it before a court has made a judgement*! They have taken it down *before* any official resolution has been made. Do you not think that's kindof a problem?
This is like the nuclear deterant, but without the massive death toll to keep it at bay.
They should all sue each other out of the market and let companies who are not such tools have a shot at the market.
You really think that's how MAD works? In this situation the only ones that can *survive* are the established players with lots of patents. A new player has nothing to defend itself with and would immediately be sued into oblivion by one of the companies with patents.
Basically: "this court doesn't matter, there will be an appeal" mixed in with a healthy lack of recognition that APIs have been de facto uncopyrightable for years, it's just never been said by a judge before.
Actually, modded down because you're a dick.
That's not actually what the report says...
"Informative" my arse.

Why does the UK need EU permission to do local utility work?
From TFA: "Broadband Delivery UK uses £530m of public money in the commercial sector"
Which brings up competition rules about governments subsidising private industry to make them more competitive in the EU market.
So the moral of your story is that basic physics saved your fat lardass from having to do some PT?
Sounds like a valid use to me...
don't waste my tax dollars arresting him
Well since none of your tax dollars were involved in this event that happened in the UK, you can kindly shutthehellup.
And the flip side is that social media doesn't produce anything worth reading anyway.
Well, if you had more interesting friends...

Keep drinking...

Don't get confused, I am not being racist
I do not think that word means what you think it means.
You know that Android vendor you bought Google? Motorola Mobility.
Certain phones are still stuck on 2.x because *your company* won't update them.
Jeez, give them a chance, they've only had control for a few weeks...

From TFS:
"Is this the beginning of the end for Android?"
No, it's the beginning of the end for Apple.
And patents in their current form... Apple should be careful where they have their successes, if the general population start becoming aware of the silly system that is in place (and getting a very high-profile popular phone banned is a pretty good way) then reform is going to gain traction.

Sue them. It'll be good fun.

Perfect. Additional hits means additional ad dollars.
Not sure ad-dollars are the preferred choice of revenue for a shop.

Pick MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, then pick a size. Done.
Yeah, as long as you want to pay double for equivalent specs. Brilliant plan...
