That's good news for all of us humans out here, but what about our aquatic File-swapping friends? Unite with our fishy friends and protect their rights to music!
First they came for the fish, but I did not speak out. Because I was not a file-swapping fish. Then they came for the DeCSS hoarding antelope...
The administrators and users of SpamCop, SpamAssassin, etc. should back off for one 24-hour period. Let the spam roll in. If it truly would be a "lot, lot, lot worse" without spam-fighters,
That's a great idea, but noone's going to realise what's happening..
Perhaps if we send out an email to everyone on the internet to let them know???

There are some linux systems that have been running continuously for around a decade now, without any upgrades at all...
This isn't intended to be troll-ey, but can anyone actually back that statement up? I accept that there are Unix systems that have been up for decades, but since Linux only hit v0.01 in 1991 I somehow doubt that it was at production stability levels a year later.
Unless you mean you have a system that's sat there displaying a login prompt for 10 years?;)
So in conclusion:
"Well, I don't want to call you a liar, but..... I don't know how to finish that sentence." - Bart Simpson
So when are they going to develope a countertechnology: the cloak of invisibility! We have airplanes with low radar profiles, (stealth) so what will it take for low visible / infrared / UV profiles? A kind of flexible mirror suit that reflects the surrounding environment?
Gary Glitter had one of those in the 80's and look where it got him. Ostracised for being a kiddie fiddler, that's where..
In my opinion by 2005 Linux will have buried MS from the software perspective. I'm basing this opinion on the rate at which Open Source software develops. I've been a 100% Linux person for a year or two now and I'm still constantly amazed at how fast the projects evolve.
An example would be KDE - I don't use KDE (I prefer FVWM2), but I do occasionally check it out to see how it's progressing and the advances that it's made since v2 are impressive to say the least. What I particularly enjoy is the way that OSS seems to get more efficient and faster with successive releases when MS stuff traditionally gets slower and heavier with successive releases (compare Mozilla 0.96 with 1.1a, or KDE 2 with KDE 3).
Whether having superior software will be enough to help Linux displace MS in the short-medium term is debatable, but if you're prepared to wait a few years I think the difference in quality is going to become so extreme that short of purchased legislation or major adaptaion on their part MS is doomed to lose it's dominance.
It's amazing how many people can't be bothered to read 3 paragraph article before spouting off a complete load of shit about it.
If you had read the article you would realise that Stallman, contrary to some of the fights he picks, is actually being quite reasonable here.
What he's saying is that he doesn't approve of the licence, and that authors should beware of licences other than the GPL because they may not protect their work from being kidnapped like this.
Also, it's worth pointing out that in this case Linux and Main went to Stallman for his opinion, he didn't get on a soap box and force it down anyone's throat.
The difference is that the service you're thinking of probably works from a pre-specified list of locations for the businesses it covers.
The cool thing about the winning google entry is that it actually deduces the location of the search result by finding and parsing any address information that appears on the site!
I think that's pretty clever. - Does anyone know if it's limited to the US?
I agree. You'd think that if RMS was really ego-driven about this OS, he'd just alter his first name a bit and call it that.
Actually, if you'd read Just for fun: The story of an accidental revolutionary by Linus and David someone you'd know that Linus originally wanted to call Linux 'Freax' instead.
However, everyone thought that sucked and the issue was ultimately decided by the guy that created the directory on Helsinki University's FTP server that hosted the Linux source, since he named the directory Linux.
...Not for me...I use Gnome + E.16 at work....single monitor (makes me wish for my dual-head box at home...) with the same desktop look and feel as my home desktop [house.cx] (see more recent shots).
Am I the only one whe expected the picture at a house.cx domain to be a small maisonette with it's back door wide open?
I was just about to point out the benefits of working for a government institution, but I get here when there's only 6 +3 comments and see that 4 of them are already saying it!:)
Please moderate me -1 Redundant. Thankyou.

I run a rather unpopular website with some pictures of my coral reef tank. Sadly, Time Warner doesn't want me to run a server because of the traffic it could consume.
Now that they have a per for traffic model, can I run my server?
If they do let you; be sure to post the URL to/. so we can all come and admire it... <evil grin>

You really need to read the FAQ.
If you think that Slashdot is a respectable news source, good for you, but that's not what it's meant to be. It's a community forum for discussion of things that appeal to us geeks, and while this is simple, inane humour it's also amusing.
Perhaps the fact that you're the only one complaining in this story amidst all the people joining in on the joke should tell you something?
This is like when Tony Blair got into power and the photo-opportunity was him moving in to Number 10 carrying his Fender.
Wildly offtopic, I know, but:
I could be wrong, but I believe the Blairs live at number 11 instead of number 10 as is usual. Number 11 is normally reserved for the chancellor, but because it's a bigger house and their family is bigger than that of most of the past Prime Ministers' the Blairs have it instead.
I emailed the manufacturers regarding the free tests. Here's what they said:
Thank you very much for your high interests in Y.S. TECH's revolutionary new
product: T.M.D. FAN (Tip-Magnetic Driving Fan).
After the announcement of the T.M.D. FAN, we have been receiving uncountable
inquiries everyday to review the T.M.D. FAN, to obtain the T.M.D. FAN
samples and to attain developing schedule. To deal with all of your
inquiries and be fair to everyone, here is what Y.S. TECH would like you to
follow. We appreciate for your cooperation in advance!
1. Please visit Y.S. TECH web site at http://www.ystech.com.tw to obtain the
detailed information (including technical issues).
2. We hereby enclose some images (.jpg at 72 dpi) that you are very welcome
to apply them to your web site's product review and news announcement.
3. After your post or announcement of the T.M.D. FAN in your web site,
please inform us the links. Then we will deliver physical T.M.D. FAN samples
(possibly with heatsink) for your test and review purpose. The samples will
be delivered to you in the middle of April.
4. After your test on the T.M.D. FAN, you will be much appreciated, if you
post the test results and comments in your web site. It doesn't matter the
results or the comments are positive or negative. The general public needs
the truth.
Here is the rough schedule for the dimensional development of the T.M.D.
FAN:
Now: 70x70x15mm is now available. It is targeted for Pentium 4 CPU cooler.
April: 70x70x15mm T.M.D. FAN will be shipped out to variable locations
over the world.
May to June: 60x60x25mm, 80x80x25mm T.M. FAN will be released to the
market. These two dimensions are targeted for AMD CPU cooler and case
cooling.
Again, thank you very much for your interests in T.M.D. FAN!
Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.
Y.S. TECH will reply to you as soon as possible.
Note the "uncountable enquiries..;) I wonder why? I think their attitude about the reviews is very good. It's a shame more companies aren't like that.
Tritium is rare as it has a half life of only 12 years, but it can be produced my bombarding Lithium with neutrons. This is how currently designed Tokamak fusion reactors create part of their own fuel.

" Enron's net revenue was $1.266 million or roughly 1.1% that of revenue. How can they have a net income exceeding revenue, since the equation is NetIncome = Revenue - Cost."
Maybe Enron's accountants were as bad at book keeping as this guy?

Of course, that's a problem with the Linux crowd. Feer of being, and being seen as, professional.
That's not something you'll have to worry about with spelling like that.
Yeah, I know. Spelling flames are the lowest form of internet wit. Blow me.

2)
3) Vulnerability demonstrated

That would be a good bumper sticker, "I am from a country you probably haven't heard of."

Best thing is, any person who originates from outside the US could have one and it'd be mostly accurate
