Microsoft also warned today that the era of "open computing," the free exchange of digital information that has defined the personal computer industry, is ending.
Microsoft is talking about the DMCA and the things worse than it which are to come.
Let's face it: this injustice is going to continue as long as the generation of people who were hippies in the 1960's are in power.
This generation is filled with people who bucked centuries of moderately well-functioning social customs for a narrow-minded, self-centred set of principles that were logically broken, namely, that everyone could be a freeloader, and that taking mind-altering drugs and raising children only affect the individuals who make those decisions.
We're not going to change these people's minds about these technology issues, because that would involve drastically changing the thought process that has been engrained in their minds since their childhood.
1). The adverage IQ is 100 that means half of the people who can vote have below adverage IQ however you measure IQ, thats just the way it is, who's to say you vote is better than somone elses.
No, it doesn't. If the median IQ were 100, that would be true, but "average" refers to the mean.
(95+97+96+92+91+150)/6 = 103.5
The average is 103.5, but the overwhealming majority of the values given are actually less than 100.
Do you know what the licensing for code snippets from MSDN is? They always provide them but I can't find a copyright release anywhere. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough (or recently enough).
Open source software sucks. It's never better than commercial software, and almost always worse.
I agree with you that a lot of open-source software sucks, but nobody can seriously claim that Microsoft IIS is better overall than Apache, and you have just done so, thereby discrediting you.
My question is sort of off-topic, but I don't really know where to ask it: Where is the Windows programming community? How do Windows programmers get their information and help? I am familiar with how to get information for *nix programming: just search the web, look up the manpages, and post questions on the mailing lists/newsgroups. But I have a hell of a time writing Windows programs because I can't seem to find the mutual support network that is so common in the *nix world.
Nowadays you can be arrested without court order, Nowadays you can be arrested without court order, your house can get searched without court order, your phones can get tapped (you guess... without court order),
you call that free?
Three points:
You cannot expect the police to do their jobs properly if everything they do has to be ordered by a judge. It just encourages cutting corners.
You can sue for false arrest or harassment if the cops are bugging you for frivolous reasons
In some areas, judges (just older lawyers, really) are equally or less trustworthy than policemen. We really don't want to give them too much power, either.
Why should the person be required to keep things secure? If someone breaks into your house, you are not to blame that the bars over your windows were not thick enough. Yes, you may have prevented the break-in by using thicker bars, but the blame is still not yours.
In fact, my entire family "runs" Linux, because I maintain the machines. The computers in my house also run Windows partitions, but they are expendable and when they break, I fix them when I get a round tuit -- which usually takes a few weeks. My family doesn't seem to care too much, because they use Linux for all the important stuff anyway.
The trick to having your mom run Linux is to maintain her machine yourself. Of course, it depends on what your mom wants to run. My family isn't really big on the popular computer games, so CrossOver covers almost all of our Windows needs anyway. YRMV.
Our IT department has mandated that every desktop be one of about 4 acceptable models (all from Compaq) specifically to avoid having to support many different types of hardware.
pYou've just stated how it is "any different than rolling out 1000 MS desktops".
That's not what they are for. User-Agent: headers are supposed to allow servers cope with horrible bugs in clients and vice versa.
Maybe, but if you sneeze, they'll turn back on and flip you back a century.
You should be using maildirs
*I* paid my share for the good of the community...
No, that would be a bad idea. The preamble is part of the licence, and would be used in the licence's interpretation in court.
Which part of "Amigaish" do you mean?

2.4.15 *also* broke filesystems on umount. I learned the hard way.
Doesn't Lee-nus or did he Americanise his pronunciation?

True, which is why they should not have all the power. Would you also like to address my comment about police being able to do their jobs effectively?
I agree with you that a lot of open-source software sucks, but nobody can seriously claim that Microsoft IIS is better overall than Apache, and you have just done so, thereby discrediting you.
This isn't FUD. These are facts.
No, it's a troll. Get it right.

Hmm.. Perhaps that was the real question. None of this "how many roads" idiocy! :-)
Can anyone find his name so that we can use his name as a swearword and bring disgrace to his name?

Hmm.. It would probably be simple enough to do on the HURD.. Interesting idea...
Is it just my imagination, or does the W3C marginalize itself every time it tries this?
Free Software, yes. Copyleft, no.
I agree with most of what you said, but it's still not racism.
