BSD licence? What for? Isn't it normal for public institutions to release things under the public domain? What does the BSD licence offer that the public domain doesn't? ------
The reason I don't want my car stolen is because I need my car to drive to work. I don't care if someone else buys the same car as me, and I don't care what price they paid for it (including $0). ------
Gee, what a surprise! Sony pushes for the strict control of intellectual property (DMCA/DVDCSS), but doesn't respect others' demands for control (or lack thereof).
And I thought Slashdot was hypocritical! Go figure! ------
In this case the judge
signed an order requiring information from an IP address that the FBI had not presented any evidence of
needing information on. That also was incompetence.
That is one of
of the most stupid
things I have ever
seen.
Despite your claims of "incompetence", many people will have read the previous sentence as "That is one of the most stupid things I have ever seen.", rather than "That is one of of the most stupid things I have ever seen." ("of" written twice). Your brain is a patern-recognition engine, and it will often miss details. Does that make you incompetent? Of course not. ------
This is perfect! If the government of Argentina finds it needs a piece of free software that doesn't exist yet, it will have to hire a few programmers to work on it full-time. Once that's done, it will not only benefit them (others will now add new features and other benefits that cost the government nothing) but the rest of the free software community as well (getting more software).
I think the fewer exceptions, the better, in the long run. ------
This is a good thing, if it's going to be used to improve Win* emulation under WINE, but I hope nobody uses it for anything other than that. I'm not all that familiar with 3D programming, but I think there's a reason why John Carmack prefers OpenGL to D3D, and I'd hate to see yet another inferior technology become standard.
most Pentium motherboards power the CPU with a switching regulator located right next to or even under the CPU socket.
What about the 3.3v lines on the AGP socket (if there are any)? I hacked my AT power supply into an ATX one for a motherboard upgrade (saved me $100), and I had to set the 3.3v line myself.
I'm beginning to think I didn't set it properly, and I've been having numerous, flaky problems trying to get AGP transfers working on both ATI and Voodoo3 cards. Sometimes it works, most of the time it hangs.
So, my question is: does the motherboard regulate the 3.3v lines going to the AGP port? If not, could an incorrect voltage cause consistent X video performance, but kill 3D? ------
I meant when patents are overturned in court, the judge should have the (option?) of seriously penalizing the party holding the patent, if it's frivolous or bogus. ------
There's two sides to these stupid patents. There's the USPTO, which is issuing them, and the companies filing them. The reason they file them is that there's very little to lose by filing bogus patents. What kind of penalties would be effective at deterring companies from filing bogus patent applications? ------

Yes, YOU. The guy who dares me to tell him how to moderate. :)

Three words: Partial Loop Unrolling. 8-)

Corporate sites sign nasty contracts with Microsoft, so they could sue for breach of contract.

Probably, since we know that 2% of Red Hat users MUST be pirating (??) their software! Damn GPL infringements! :)

... of about 5 minutes, or was that TCP?

Oh yeah, that.

Uh huh.

You troll! You do not have to spell something correctly to know what it means.

I'm a little clueless here: Huh?

Just my $0.02.

Hmm... Shouldn't be too hard.

GIMP ToolKit
GNU Image Manipulation Program ToolKit
GNU's Not Unix Image Manipulation dammit!

HEY! What do you think you're doing, posting facts on Slashdot like that? ;)

Or you could use sudo.

What about setting X to SCHED_RR? Has this worked any better than nice -10?
