  1. Re:So... it realy sucks, but its the best 360 game on Gears of War Review · · Score: 1

Interesting choice of wording. He basically says the the games has several problems, but the problems make the game better? Huh? How does that work? I think he may have meant that even though it has issues, it's a good game in spite of them, not because of them...
    whatever..

I'm a fan of Epic and all, but never played an Xbox anything game in my life...so if [one of] the best games for the Xbox has that many down sides, then it does indeed highlight the lack of excellent games out there for it.

This reminds me of something mildly entertaining. I used to work at an IT consulting company for small and medium businesses. Each consultant had a short list of "their clients" that only they would take care of. One of my co-workers had a client that was having some problems he couldn't fix. After many other co-workers attempted to fix the issue and failed, our boss offered a $100 bonus to the first person who could fix the problem. Of course, after that incentive, I was motived to look at the problem, and quickly found the it was so stupid that all it would take was a 5 minute fix. I fixed it and collected the bounty. Had he not offered the $100, I probably never would have looked at it. Not a great attitude on my part, but it wasn't my problem and had no incentive to do my co-workers work otherwise.

  3. My RC2 Experience on Big Challenges for Vista Bug Hunters · · Score: 0

For the fun of it (I know I'm a sadist) I downloaded and installed RC2 on my home machine to give it a whirl. Overall it's much slower than XP (my machine is a AMD64 2.2 Ghz with 2GB of RAM) and it has an annoying habit of hanging when it goes to reboot. For example, you install an updated video driver, it asks you to reboot and it tries to, but then the screen goes blank and just sits there. Hitting the reset button is about the only thing to get it to reboot at that point. I just don't see how Vista will be a viable OS anytime soon -- until MS pushes by stopping support of XP in a few years.

  4. SCO Responds to Novell on Novell Claims Ownership of UNIX System V · · Score: 0
Saw this little PR on Yahoo!
LINDON, Utah, May 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The following statement is being issued by SCO (Nasdaq: SCOX - News): SCO owns the contract rights to the UNIX® operating system. SCO has the contractual right to prevent improper donations of UNIX code, methods or concepts into Linux by any UNIX vendor. Copyrights and patents are protection against strangers. Contracts are what you use against parties you have relationships with. From a legal standpoint, contracts end up being far stronger than anything you could do with copyrights. SCO's lawsuit against IBM does not involve patents or copyrights. SCO's complaint specifically alleges breach of contract, and SCO intends to protect and enforce all of the contracts that the company has with more than 6,000 licensees. We formed SCOsource in January 2003 to enforce our UNIX rights and we intend to aggressively continue in this successful path of operation.

FYI: Redhat has had hotplug support since version 7.x something. You can get MPlayer rpms or build it from source pretty easily and get other codecs (like Quicktime) that you normally wouldn't get in pre-build ones.

Plus, who cares about a graphical boot anyway :^)

  6. Re:Covad offers free swith to DSL for @Home users on Some People @Home, Some Not @Home · · Score: 1

Stay away from Covad. At work we had a Covad DSL line through Voicenet w/ 5 static IPs. Once they heard that Voicenet was going to dump Covad at the end of the month in favor of Verizon's DSL network, Covad unplugged all 400+ Voicenet customers before their contract was up. We were without access for 10 days while we waited for Verizon to finish setting up our T1 line. Covad's situation isn't much better or different from Excite@Home's!
