West Winger staff member is complaining about the ridiculous amounts of money spent in the military for routine items. The military guy smashes an ashtray on his desk... and it breaks into only three pieces.
He goes on to explain that the ashtray costs $400 to research and to make; however, whenever you are in a sub, the ashtray won't break into millions of bits during combat action.
Anyway, I've looked at military spending differently since that episode...
Apple will never go away. Apple has built a loyal fan base that will stick with it through thick and thin.
I am not an apple fan... but I appreciate what apple brings to the table.
That apple fan base is going to remain constant. Apple is safe and it works--easily.
Linux and windows systems CAN be built to work and to work well... however, they also allow a lot of tweakage. A large portion of the users feel they have a muscle car, and they want to tweak, overclock, and customize that bastard of all of its worth.
A world with linux, apple, and microsoft--having the three of them is much better than having any two. New ideas, new flow, new users.
Gasp. A *nix trojan?!? Everything that slashdot has taught me must be untrue! HHHAAAAARRRR!
Anyway, this seems to be a perfect stealth mapping technique for a future worm author, researcher, or even a government. The receiver of the information will probably be discovered once several of these trojans are found in the wild. Even though they are mostly spewing junk... the "true" information is probably maintained by all the trojans.
What surprises me is that this thing is creating enough traffic to get noticed... but not figured out.
Jon Katz's media criticism has appeared in Wired and the New York Times. He is the author of the mystery novels "Last Housewife" (Doubleday) "Death by Station Wagon" (Bantam) and "The Family Stalker" (Bantam). He can be reached at JDKatz@aol.com.
Having installed it on several computers of friends and family, I have noticed no complications or interactions with the execution or installation of other software.
My theory is... not only should I keep my computer safe, but I need to get the computers of those who email me the most safe. It's another layer of protection.:)
Anyway, AVG has earned a good word whenever virus-checking is discussed.
To allow unused copyrighted works to enter the public domain after 50 years, while allowing copyright owners the full protection of the established copyright term.
Why wait 50 years? Heck if I have to pay to renew my domain name every few years... why not a copyright, too? Also, there's no reason why it should have to cost any money at all. Just fill out the paper work every 5-10 years.
Likewise, if somebody in your behalf (children, their children, etc.) continues this tradition... I see no reason why the copyright should not legally be able to be maintained forever.
Specifically designing your product to work better in a test than in real life should be considered cheating.
This could be avoided if 3DMark2003 would release different methods of testing the video cards each year... or if one could download updates from 3DMark2003 that would block any driver-specific optimizations.
I usually look at the latest and greatest fps benchmark for the latest and greatest game anyway.
Well, actually... my current Nvidia video card laughs at my little CPU anyway. I until I can find some more CPU to drive my screaming video card... I am not going to find any performance increase.
All the porn companies are adopting this technology for their web pages.

The nice thing about a computer this size is that you can just place it in a small refrigator... and then overclock the heck of it.
Plus, you have a nice place to keep your sodas/beer chilled as well.
"Honey, can you take out those leftovers? They are making my computer smell like an italian restaurant!"

The thing is the size of my hand and will do Quake3 twice as fast as my box that take up my whole desktop.
Shheeettt... I must be getting old to have let my box go this long without an overhaul.

But a recent West Wing episode pops into my head.
Anyway, I've looked at military spending differently since that episode...
Oh, and Microsoft sucks... blah, blah, blah...

Okay... if I want a portable screen, I'll buy a laptop.
Sure the screens come in 17 inches... but come on, I don't know why portable screens would be so helpful.
Somebody give me some actual uses... I just can't think of any that a laptop wouldn't do just as well.
The only thing I can think of would be nice to display a powerpoint presentation from my PDA -- however, a laptop would still do better.
Anyway, I think it's cool. Just give me some reasons.

At least people can no longer say that the editors are favoring one OS over another. We have had obvious plugs for all the major systems today.
Not very useful or informative... but at least well-rounded...

Proof that slashbot moderators exist...
If you moderate, you should read everything.
How about changing the slash code that you cannot give out mod points unless you are reading at -1!
Moderation is an art of balance. If you are just modding up the interesting stuff already modded up, you are useless to the system.
BTW, I need to tell you about a bridge. Yes, everybody else is jumping off of it too.

Anyhoo. Enjoy.

Yes, in other news the FGA (Fruit Growers of America) is filing suit against Apple.
"Apple" is pretty damn generic term... get off soapbox!

"Some of us are to broke..."
--should be--
"Some of us are too broke..."
Sorry...
Davak
Like if I had the Sci-Fi channel, I would ever watch NBC. Some of us are to broke for the huge cable packages!
Anyway, watching the original through the static would hide the cheesy effects.
Long live the rabbit ears.
Davak
Forget the synopsis... I want NBC to re-show the original series!
My wife and I have been joking about it forever.
I think this flash of the original would allow people to get "caught-up" on the story enough to enjoy the new story...
Otherwise, the first third of the new series is just going to have to introduce the viewers to the concept.
Bring back the original!

We use to be boring...
now we have all kinda stuff to do.
And that's just a sampling of biloxi...
Here's a sample of Tunica's boats! Of course, here is a whole web site dedicated to Mississippi's new found wealth.
If you enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, Elvis, the blues, college sports, famous authors--then you might rather visit this site.
Anyway, trying to get Mississippi a few props... and I have a few Karma points to burn.

If it is directly designed to make quake VIII run faster, yeah! Slap that on the box! The consumer gains from that.
However, if it is designed to make a benchmark run faster... well, that's just not nice.
Davak
Maybe I should elaborate...
Specifically designing your product to work better in a test than in real life should be considered cheating.

So nVidia's drivers are optimized specifically to run 3DMark2003... and that's not a cheat
Errrr... that seems like a cheat to me!
