I know that this sounds really odd to a lot of rational people, but I have reason to believe that an alien invasion of earth has already begun and been in progress for the past thirty three years. There have been many signs, but the evidence I've found with a simple Google search reveals the presence of aliens on earth hiding in plain sight. Here is a perfect example:

The actor called "Vincent Hammond" is most obviously not from Earth. I was watching the Outer Limits the other night and something seemed very wrong about the evil alien characters. Rather than the usual bad FX that the SciFi channel is so ready to use at a moment's notice, the evil character, Koltok, seemed far too real. Even more telling is that this supposed human actor named Vincent Hammond not only played one, but two aliens in that episode. As if that weren't enough, when I researched this "Vincent Hammond" I could only find pictures of him in various TV shows portraying very similar looking aliens. See here and here. Now could it be that the reson for this is that the same designers were involved in multiple productions? This is highly unlikely. It's a lot more likely that "Vincent Hammond" is an alien and that they really aren't using much makeup on him when he is featured in these programs.

Also, those Hollywood types are weird enough that they wouldn't even give the idea of employing a space alien, if it makes them money, a moment of thought. We've got major problems. Aliens are among us and they are slowly weaving their way into our collective unconsious. This is highly risky and could lead to an acceptance of their villainous treachery. So keep you're eyes out for space alien scum and make sure that if you see one in person to notify the authorities. THe more warnings like this that the police and military get, the more likely it is that they will begin to take the warnings seriously.

I just got the winning bid on a Cray MP-X computer! I've wanted one of these since I was in high school back in 1988. It runs some old Unix variant called UniCOS, but considering the clock speed and RAM, I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be too hard to get Windows XP 64-bit running on it. That's one thing that always makes me laugh is how people are always buying the "latest and greatest" Pentium crap when it would be more cost effective to get a Univac, VAX or PDP-11 and just set up some x86 emulation on it to run Windows at blazing speeds.

I'm a Windows hacker and I know how to do all kinds of leet things with WIndows that would amaze the experts. In fact, I have a few tricks up my sleeve that even Bill Gates doesn't know about. But getting a Cray to run Windows is going to be one of my best feats ever. I prepped my home office for the possibility of getting a Cray about a year ago and cleared away a little space and got a grounded 110 vac outlet installed (my house doesn't have grounded outlets except for this one).

One of my oldest friends who knew me back in high school used to argue that if he could set up a cluster of five or ten Amigas, he'd outperfomr the Crays. Now I can finally get him to see the truth. My Cray running Windows XP is gonna smoke his thirty node Amiga cluster. It just goes to show you that Intel is a bunch of liars. Every time they've raised the clock speed on their procs, they've dropped the amount of bits that can be processed by the proc so things improve in an incremental way. Whereas, Seymore Cray got it right the first time when he chose massively parallel computing over serial prosessing. With Windows XP's SMP support it should be able to take full advantage of the Cray's parallel architecture. Just wait until I get Halo running on this beast!

What the FCC is suggesting is clearly within reasonable bounds of methodology to insure successful commerce and increase national security. What with all the terrorists running around, we've got make sure we're safe. Personally, I'd like to see more of this kind of thing happening but not just tracking phones, tracking people too. The way I see it, the world is a dangerous place and you've got to make certain that the wrong sorts of people are carefully watched. Considering that I am not involved in anything that could be flagged as suspicious by law enforcement, I am confident that my reputation as an honest American will ensure my privacy.

The main problem with the griping about what the FCC proposes is that people don't want to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Instead of making sure they keep their noses clean to keep the FCC from taking an interest in their activities, they expect the nanny state to go the extra mile to create the illusion of privacy. That's the problem with most people these days. They have no sense of personal responsibility and expect the nanny state to do everything for them. This line of thinking is what costs lives to terrorism. If everyone let the government keep track of everywhere they go and everything they do, then the only people who would have anything to fear would be the true bad guys. Every other citizen would be safe and they would know that [tt]heir privacy was assured since they took it upon themselves to walk the straight and narrow.

Come on people! This stuff is simple. Instead of expecting the government to do everything for you take matters into your own hands by letting the government track you! It's not that hard to follow this line of thinking. I know that the Bush administration has definitely moved in a much better direction by stepping up surveillance. We haven't had one attack since 9/11 here and it's because we've given up the illusion of privacy for true personal privacy that WE control ourselves by NOT being criminals. Why is this so hard for everyone to get?

For one thing, I hate MMORPG style games. I think they are for control freaks who have failed to get the control they want in real life. Most of them probably of a libertarian bent. There was this guy I knew through a friend of my wife. He loved playing Civilization back in the 90s. He loved it so much that it's pretty much all he would do when he got home from work. Now, this guy was a Republican Nazi. I'm not exaggerating. He actually said once that Hitler really had a lot of good ideas and that the Republican party will go far utilizing them. Anyway, he love playing this boring ass of a game so much that on Valentine's day when his girlfriend asked him what he wanted to do for the special day he actually resorted to physical violence (nothing extreme, but certainly not warranted in the least) just to indicate that he wanted to keep playing Civ. Freak. Let's put it this way, choose:

    1. Play Civ all night and imagine yourself to be the master of all that you survey on your CRT.

    Or...

    2. Go out to dinner in the real world with a cool woman and get laid.

Simple choice really. Sex always wins. But not for him. Fortunately, she ditched his ass.

I also knew this other guy who was also addicted to Civ at the same time. Also a Republican with Libertarian leanings. In general a pretty nice guy. But he took Civ so seriously it was just weird. Since I saw all this fuss being made over the game, I thought I'd look at it myself. And you know what? I thought it was the most boring thing I'd ever played in my life. I've had more thrills playing tic-tac-toe against myself and winning every time.

However, it became clear to me why some people just love the game. It makes them feel like they are part of something. Makes them feel important even. They can throw off the humdrum of their real lives and mayors, presidents, service men, etc... Even moreso, it encourages the false notion that everyone has a chance at being successful if they work hard and do everything right. That's pretty much the focus of these kinds of games, except that "chance" is thrown in which may throw off success. They might think it's their mighty skill at politics or military strategy or magic spells or what have you, but in actuality, it's pure luck. Kind of like real life. The only difference is that you can be a wimpass and save your best states to retrun to after a dismal failure. Can't do that in real life.

So, what do these games do for society? THey are DAMAGING. They help people hide from dealing with harsh realities. They also give these people unjustifiable egos. A lot of these people take their online feelings and begin attempting to transfer them to their real lives. Most of the time they come off looking like pricks or weirdos. But sometimes, they convince just enough people that they know what they're doing and wind up ruining things for other people by furthering the lie that everyone can be a success. Yes, you should work hard. Yes, you should try to succeed. But you should always keep in mind that failure is the likely outcome in every case and if you do miraculously succeed, then you should be quiet about it and accept it with dignity instead of being a total ass and saying "I RULE".

Yeah. I hate MMORPGs. I think they are a total waste of time and brain cycle. The time those people are spending living these ridiculous fantasies would be better spent helping those around them. That is the only true way to success. Help those in need. Because if this is done at every level, then all of those who need help will be helped and all of those who can help will have a REAL purpose (ie. NOT buying yachts and Cadillac Escalades). Besides, every real gamer knows that FPS games are the bomb! Let's hear it for my next 18 hour Quake III Arena session! Yeah!!! I RULE!!!!

When I'm in a room full of people, I'm the guy everyone says, "gee you're quiet" to. But, if you get to know me and we share a lot of things in common, the conversations will go on for hours. Everyone who knows me personally thinks I'm a really nice guy. They are also aware of my strong sarcastic streak and most tend to appreciate it. To make matters better, my wife is even more sarcastic and has even more "hate" (read as doesn't give a rat's ass about what anyone thinks is important if they take themselves too seriously) than I do. We make a lovely couple and we make even better parents to our daughter. So... I would have to suggest that your assessment of me is completely wrong.

What my wife and I have come up with is that there are many types of people, but the worst are the "heart and puppy dog" people. They want everything to be nice and happy and everyone to be *nice* to each other and it's all just sooooo *nice*. These people are stupid. They are the people who when the polls for Clinton were up were saying, "that Clinton. What a nice guy..." Then when the polls for Bush were up, "that Bush. What a nice guy...". These people don't "get it". They don't understand that life is a travesty that you just have to laugh at in order to get by. Instead they took the easy route of sticking their heads up their asses and denying harsh truth.

Sadly, these people make up the majority of the world. They are the people who don't like coarse jokes about babies for instance. Seeing that I'm a father, they would think I'd be offended by a good baby joke. But... I can make the logical separation between reality and fiction. They, apparently can't. Still, I also understand how to be polite. That's why so many people think I'm the nicest guy they've ever met. Because, I AM the nicest guy they'll ever meet. If they are decent people (yeah even the heart and puppy dog variety) I'll do all I can to help them. If they're assholes, I'll do everything I can to fuck with them. I think my high school history teacher put it best, "You are so aggravating. You are both a gentleman and a rebel. It's impossible to fault you for being a prick, because you're not. But it can't be denied that you make no bones about what you don't like". And that's the point. I call them as I see them.

One more thing... your post wasn't really negative in any way, but it was just fascinating to me since you actually took the time to try and make a guess as to what I'm like with very few clues about me. Truth be told, I was a punk rocker with a strong punk rock DIY ethos in high school and still kept the attitude into adulthood. I like to fuck with people who think life is simple. Not because I'm mean, but because I want to wake them the fuck up. However, you don't seem to be asleep. ;P Cheers.

At one library I worked at, there were enough complaints about the porn that the solution they came up with was to put privacy screens on the monitors so that the pervs couldn't "show off" what they were looking at. There are plenty of folks out there who are very exhibitionistic about their interest in porn. They would pull up some "dirty picture" and then wait until one of the nicer looking female patrons or librarians walked by and then step to one side for their benefit. So... 3M privacy screens were added. After that, the worst offenders started trying to take the screens off. When that happened, THEN the security guards were allowed to come and escort the person out of the building.

I still think the best policy is to let people look at whatever they want as long as they are subtle about it. Privacy screens are a good idea. But, I also think a strict policy of throwing people out and banning them for a long period of time should be used to bolster the effectiveness against most pervs. That was the problem where I was, the person in charge didn't think it was right to ban anyone from the library until someone's (the person in charge that is) life was threatened by one of the whackos. That's just wrong.
