    I think the word actually comes from the common latin root with the english word "orgasm". The proper word is "orgasmi" and "orkku" (of which "orkut" is the plural form) is just a short slang for of that..

    (..like anyone is really intereted in the linguistic finesse of finnish slang :)

    XML-RPC and SOAP are not really OO RPC mechanisms (despite SOAP containing the word "object" in it).

    Actually it doesn't contain the word "object" anymore, since W3 realized that the original name "Simple Object Access Protocol" was a bit misleading and the newest version of the spec does not expand the acronum anymore. So now SOAP is just SOAP :)

    I'm from Finland and I believe that the Norwegian justice sustem similarly to the Finnish one follows the Germanic juridic tradiotion, where the anglo-saxon "jury" institution is not widely used. In fact most of the judgements are passed by professional judges and in the few cases where a jury is used is in cases where the judgement is done by a panal of judges. The panel has allways more lawyers than laymen.

    I'm just guessing here, but could it be that in order to absorb CO2 effectively, water has to be in a liquid for since in a liquid for it effecively provides more surface area for absorbing gasses. Other point could be that generally warmer a solutionscan absorb other substances more effectively (e.g. try adding salt to cold and warm water. More salt can be melted to the warm water than to the cold).

    To those who have much freedom like the US you fucking up and KILLING someone else gets you the death penalty.

    Sure, there is almost unbearable amount of freedom in a country where people can be detained for unlimited time and tried in secret military tribunals.

    Hell in Europe you can kill a gay political canidate and get out in 15 years? 15 years for murder and thwarting democratic action. Go find someone else to cry for your fucked up misguided opinions on the death penalty.... That bastard should be hung from a light post just for killing a gay let alone for the political damage it cauased in it's wake.

    Firstly, USA is not completly foreign to politically motivated assasinations either. Secondly, the murder of Pim Fortuyin was had nothing to do with the sexual preference of the victim. And thirdly, It's very hard for me to understand how the execution of the murderer would have assisted the political process in any way.

    I won't even go to the racial aspects of the USAs capital punishment practise, nor will I dwell on the fact that there is hard evidence that innocent people have been executed in the US over the years.

    The only thing I will mention here is that even though you have the right to strongly disagree with everything I say, there hardly is any reason to use such abusive language..

    Ok, so nobody is being tortured or killed in the USA (that's what happens in Cuba at Guantanamo, and a whole other kettle of fish), but this man's right to change the government should still be respected. What? Nobody is killed in USA? Are you sure?

    There are 82 juvenile offenders on the death row in US cuurently (other countries that execute juvenile offenders are Iran, Pakistan, Congo,Yemen.. nice company).

    From 1976 to 2001, total of 749 people have been executed (256 of those in Texas).

    So don't tell me nobody is killed in USA.

    The problem with online voting is that it might not be as secure and confidental as voting somewhere which is supervised by (neutral) officials. For example, how can we ensure that people are not pressured/forced to vote for someone by husband/wifes/boyfrinds/relatives/respectable businessmen. Since the voted candidate must be visible on the computer screen, afore mentioned people could check who the victim actually voted for...

    The only way to solve problems and negotiate successfully with the employee is for the employees to have a united front. Thias united front can come in many forms, of which a labor unioin is one. In Finland (and other ultra-social-democration Nordic countries) we have a culture of strong unions and IMHO it has benefitted the whole nation. We have job security, unrivalled maternity and paternity benefits, 4 to 6 weeks of summer holidays.. and still we managed to be the 2nd most competitive country in the world..

    I did not mean to sound overly patriotic, just to point out that there is many ways to organize the labor markerts successfully

    The funny part is stores in most of Europe can't display the VAT tax separately, because your government is afraid if you saw how much tax you paid every day on necessities, you'd rebel in 6 months.

    That's complete BS. All receipts that are to be kept in any kind of official records MUST have the VAT amount and precentage shown, so all the stores are obliged to write such a receipt if asked (due to which allmost all modern cash registers print it automatically).

    I guess, it's also a question of what you are used to, but I really got irritated in most US shops due to the fact that the listed prices did not contain VAT. IMHO it's nice to know how much the thingy your are about to buy will eventually cost with out calculator..
