Of course life will find a way: global warming does not mean the end of all life on Earth. But we have no mean to chose which way will be taken. And from what we can see today, we will have to adapt A LOT:
- more death from heat,
- new parasites or more parasites in crop fields,
- less rain in desertic countries...
This is already happening.
And it can be really worse... Remember how global warming can trigger an ice age (the melting of Greenland could stop the Gulf Stream, which is a gigantic heat pipe protecting Europe from freezing).
This article is pure propaganda: stop worrying, keep consuming, keep producing. Who cares about what our children's Earth will look like when one is making big money with his stock options.
I wish people realized 2 things:
- Environmentalism seems to be bad for business, but who cares about business when our planet is at stake???
- Environmentalism can be really good for business: we have to do everything a better way! This is an incredibly large field of development!
I wouldn't say that music sucks more than before: it's far too subjective. But there is one figure that would be objective and relevant: the number of titles that are released each year.
decreased choice == decreased sale
I don't know where to find these numbers, but I read a few years ago that the choice had decreased more than sales had. It would be interesting to check with recent numbers.
One of the main reasons is the secondary heat exchanger where sodium (Na) is really close to water. And as you know, sodium and water do not get along very well...
The concept of breeder reactors is really nice, on the paper. But having so much sodium and so much water around is scary... And if you add the load of required radiocative stuff to the equation, you get a really dirty potential bomb...
The PowerPoint clone is especially weak: in PP, common buttons like "make the font bigger" are prominently displayed, while in OO you have to hunt hard for the button in the customization menus, and even then it doesn't work right.
IMHO, this is a feature, not a lack of features. OOo forces you to use it the right way. If you refuse to use styles, OOo is really annoying. Once you've understood that you'd better use styles, using becomes great...
As for stablility: Win2000.
Really?
I had to develop with VC++ in Win2000 for 6 months: if I did not reboot everyday at noon, it would crash for sure during the afternoon. (and no, there was no crap installed in this system)
