Because unlike power, the cost is the same regardless of what you are using. Same can be said for cell phone use. The actual cost to provide that service is the same if you use 1 minute or 24/7.
This is nothing more than bilking customers. and i call BS on your argument that i shouldn't get what i bought. Screw the provider, if they cant handle my use of what i bought, then don't sell it. "Sorry customer, but you only get 1/2 a burger today, we had to share the grill with someone else, but we are still going to charge you full price"
Umm any non DRM book + calibre = kindle e-book.. pretty easy process.
As far as the publishers 'becoming more aware', they really don't care. If you want the books they own the rights to, soon you will either do as you are told, or pirate it.
Not in the rest of the world. We are printing even more than before all this talk of a 'paperless office' back in the mid 80s first began, and of course that memo was printed and distributed..
At home, perhaps we will see it end sooner, but at the office, people love their paper. ( and i'm not tossing stones.. id rather read a printout then sit and stare at my monitor all day. Far easier on the eyes )
And if your company happens to print out checks, or other sensitive data, it could be a nice easy way to capture that information and send it off to a remote site to be sifted thru.
Just saying it was one alternative, one i would happen to use personally. Didn't say it was the only one.
And chances are, at the moment only people that would be using this would also be people who could virtualize it. Once it gets out into the 'real world' and usable by the average Joe, limitations like that would most likely be gone.
Sometimes its the hidden perks ( bonuses ) and contacts you make that are the real payoff in businesses like this. They are used as stepping stones.
It's real hard to make inroads into some of those 3 lettered agencies, but with this you get your face seen and you name 'out there' for when its time to crossover.
Opens up a lot of possibilities ( once the bugs are worked out ). Not only can you make simple mechanical devices, but now you could create control systems for them too.
One of these days PirateBay will be more than music and video.. but torrents for actual 'stuff'..
Not everyone wants an iPad. I detest reading on LCD for any length of time, and the form factor comes in to play too.
You also cant toss the e-ink readers into the tablet market, they are different devices for different markets. ( which is what the story was talking about.. e-ink.... )

As it will kill off use and destroy the net as a whole.
Wouldn't this apply to any non unionized worker?
( and a stupid idea too )
No. unless you wnt to go to jail.
You reported your findings. If they don't fix the problem, discontinue your business with them and move on.
Ok, so go against the wishes of a Doctor? I would say that constitutes fraud and the Feds need to get involved.
Doctor's orders concerning the health and well being of a patient should overrule any vendor's wishes.
Nah, he will just be proven right, again.
It has nothing to do with the UI. Tubes and LCD's for extended periods are hard on the eyes.
Full sized color e-ink tablets would solve the problem however.

Arrrrrrgh... no it doesn't.. Go back to printer school 101 and try again.
Ignorance at this level is unbelievable, and unacceptable.

Run it in a VM. limit its disk space and networking in one fell swoop.
Because most names are taken and they don't have a legal team to do research.
group of ISPs in cooperation with "rights holders"
in the USA, they are normally one in the same.
Let them continue to stick their heads in the sand and fall further behind the rest of the world.
If you visit them they do while you are there...

More like "Google on steroids", with access to non public data as well as public.

Is wrong, so if they stuck with that agenda i wouldn't have a problem with it.
Places selling cheap knockoffs where they state its not real, or 'fan sites' that get some ad revenue to keep their site open should be left alone.

Why not just put up cameras everywhere?
Well, since color e-ink is just now becoming available, so what do you expect? Oh, and it wouldn't be 99 bucks either.
Also e-ink has never been meant or marketed for 'vireo', as you put it. its for reading books.
Either you are stupid and don't understand the technology, or you are confusing a book reader with a tablet.
If you root the nook touch, you can add the amazon app and get the bet of both worlds.
