    Not really. Not saying its trivial, but with 99% of the applications out there, the actual coding isn't all that hard for someone who does it professionally, but it *is* time consuming to do it right.

    What *is* hard is getting the requirements from your client, getting them to stick with it long enough to finish the project, and then supporting them afterward.

    How about a printer that just takes data and prints it... No special drivers, nothing.. send it a Postscript file and it prints.

    My 30 year old 'hobby car' has an ECM. While you cant reprogram it externally its a computer with an EPROM that holds its code.

    And it wasn't the first..

    Umm a normal car today ( and recent past ) has more embedded computers than you can sneeze at.. And basic ECM's have been around for a LONG time. All of these take code.

    Why are we blaming apple here? They bought an *existing* patent. It was not their invention ... If you want to blame anyone or shout prior art, shouldn't that be towards xerox instead?

    The patent proceeded apple too, they bought it from xerox. You will need to check the actual patent, not the apple connection.

    Also, depending on what it references, it may still hold.
