It was also good for those that wanted an actual pressed copy for archival reasons. And when they offered more then one, it was great to give out to libraries and such. Even if you want to foot the bill, just try dropping off a pack of CDr's with 'kubuntu' written in a sharpie and see how well that works out for you.
So have a GUI source tree client do it for you, or an 'install anywhere' installer on the actual application take care of your 'ports tree' in the background. Either way you get "click what you want to install, please wait a bit"
Both exist now.. Why not use what we have today instead of creating yet another wheel?
Don't forget too, with all this push to 'online distribution', is that the big providers are now starting to limit bandwidth usage since we all got used to trying to use what we were sold. Making this even less appealing.
I bet its a simple matter of removing evidence from public view during an active investigation, and it still exists for when its all hauled into court.
I read that as 'if we cant control content distribution and restrict our competition, and screw our own customers out of more money, we don't want any part of it'.
I hate to support the federal government, but that is what the FCC is there for, to watch out for us citizens, not the corporations.
Read my other post that answers that same question, YOU are anonymous, its your CAR that isn't.
And driving 'in a manner that causes a cruiser to notice you' changes the balance at that point. As long as you are obeying the law and don't call attention to yourself, you are in effect anonymous.
That is my car, not me. My car doesn't have a drivers license, I do. ( the story stated drivers license, not a license plate/tag )
Also, the numbers/owner translations on license plates aren't available to the general public or the businesses that i visit anyway, so for all practical purposes its anonymous.
Around where i live, a drivers license just says you have paid your tax ( ok, and taken the 'competency test'.. but that's a different discussion ) and gives you the right to drive around at will, anonymously. We don't have checkpoints where we have to produce ID.
Perhaps its different where he lives, which is a shame.
But that isn't the question at hand. And if you are willing to give up that right, what else are you wiling to give up? Where is your line?
That is why its called a slippery slope.. And yet another fine example of it.
I was just joking really. They have tons of mirrors, and ya, p2p options too.
Next, the download will cost. ' well, they are using their own bandwidth ya know'

Marketing shouldn't be discounted so lightly.
You are joking, right?
It wasn't that much harder, there was this mythical information gatekeeper we called a 'librarian'.
People might have to go read an actual paper book, or go out in the yard and toss a ball to their friends.

Even better is to use something like python, it comes platform independent out of the box.
Now can we please have carrier connect standards so i can move from one carrier to another without having to get new hardware 1/2 the time?
I don't have that problem with my land line and can choose any model i want, so why should i have it with my cellular 'line' ?

Umm no thanks.
And data loss.. with no DVDr, you can be sure no one will back things up.
Umm no dvd drive.. so its pretty simple how they did it.
But they ship with a DVD disk? How about the OS installer on a USB flash drive instead?
Have their medicinal values. Most medicines become poisonous at a certain level too, so there is some symmetry to it all.

Who would have ever thought.

Well, if that was the case you would be out of a job, ya hypocrite. Sounds like yet another company to boycott due to the lunacy of its management..
Glad i don't live there. ( and hope their stupidity doesn't spread ).
Oh, and i don't even own a big screen tv...
