Except for the fun of it, why would anyone want to run an OS that is liable to die at any point? Never really saw the point of doing it other then the 'look what i did' bragging rights factor.
Today, its 'fraud' sites, next its KP... then the next TPB, then anything that the administration in charge at the time doesn't like at the time. ( like a site that supports free speech, or disagrees with them )
Well, then they don't want windows either. The fact windows needs 'tinkering' as you put it is why there is an entire PC support industry in the first place.
And if by chance there comes a day that there is *no* alternative due to the TPM chips and the 'entrance fee' to play, that is the day i turn off the computer and walk away forever.
But, as long as the current existing machines are alive, and FPGAs don't require a license, i think hard core people will be ok.
Just make everyone a criminal, search everyones houses on demand. We don't need any personal freedom or rights anyway do we? Some stupid *media company* is more important, right?
For every Web site you shut down; for every IRC server you pay to have DDoSed; for every eMule node you raid; five more will spring up in their place.
That is until TPM becomes mandatory, then the man can tell you what file you are allowed to have. Sure a few people will get past it, but 99% wont. Game over.

Not if they block at the IP address level. Resolving wont do you a bit of good then. ( at least for the 'website' part of the rule. )
The beginning of the slippery slope.

If this isn't the very definition of an abusive monopoly, I don't know what is.
I agree, but good luck getting the case heard. The laws have been bought and paid for

I also buy direct from non riaa artists, both to give the indie artists support and to be sure my $ does not goto the riaa.
95% of them wont notice a difference.
STOP BUYING THEIR CRAP.
If they cant afford to buy the laws, we the people get them back.
I agree, that is the next step, and should have been taken long ago.
Then the step after that is to enact mandatory TPM/DRM on our PC's if we want to be connected ( or buy a new pc ) then it wont matter much.

Keep trying, suits.

Difference is Jobs really cares about Apple. The money is secondary. And he believes in Apple.
Balmer, doesn't really give a damn about 'Microsoft' as an entity, its just his vehicle to money and power.
There will always be room for the 'produced bands'. Sure they will appeal to mostly pre and early teens, but the market wont dry up.
I also disagree with your view on "worth", they are worth whatever they can get. YOU may not think they are worth it, but others do.
Its just common sense.
and so is the opportunity... to screw another generation of consumers..( and perhaps the last )
The blogger's car was torched and his house vandalized.
Another good example of why the net should be as anonymous as possible
Nah, there was other reasons, no real politician would resign just because he was called names. Name calling is part of the business.
Go for NetBSD instead.
So is the video fixed for the EEEPC so the menu isn't so painfully slow? ( its the video driver, don't remember which chipset )
Make them yank their fiber back out.
The only group that will be allowed to 'accuse' will be the media, and why would they incriminate their own paid for law makers?
Good.
Pot has a higher market value.
