    Its fairly easy to ID standard encrypted traffic and throttle or just outright block. This is something iv'e been talking about all along that people claimed wasn't possible. Once they ban non government 'blessed' encryption, it will just be blocked.

    But at least in the meantime, while they can do packet shaping, they still cant snoop on content.

    Once that happens we have to come up with practical 'transparent' encryption techniques.

    Its always nice to be vindicated, again. Go me!

    In theory, yes. And it did bridge the gap.

    Using some of the tech they just bought ( softgrid ) coupled with virtualPC/Server they could do the same i'm sure.

    They have to break with the past soon to move forward and survive, but if they abandon the existing application base out of the gate, they will cut their own throats. ( sounds like apple again.. doesn't it )

    As i look at the Bell Systems metal phone booth sign hanging over my desk ( its mounted on the wall ), ill never be convinced that it was a good idea.

    Oh, and my lucite block with a piece of the local bell office's sign embedded in it from when the sign was removed after the breakup and subsequent name change, that sits on my desk next to my cup holder.

    Sorry, *no one* can convince me otherwise, ever.

    Oh, and i still have my original bluebox so don't call me jaded..

    While under ATT's control it was much healthier for both the telecomm industry and its customers then what we have now.

    The technical advances that Bell Labs made could never have been recreated with what was left.

    And as far as consumer protection, they were so heavily regulated that they couldn't have stepped out of line even if they wanted to.

    The breakup was wrong and politically motivated.

    The easiest way to get a persistent session is to Use the regular vncserver from a SSH command line.

    I do it all the time. I suggest you make sure to enable compression and don't go overboard with graphical apps if you access it from the WAN.

    They breed rudeness, and lack of consideration to others in general is a result.

    Its rude and offensive to use a phone ( or other communication device ) in public ( or in a meeting ) regardless of volume.

    The practice should be outright banned unless its an emergency. ( and you should get jail time for a violation )

    He implied they were stuck in traffic ( speaking of his escape afterwards ) so you wouldn't be able just drive off to safety. ( and lets say he followed you.. what then? )

    Ever been car jacked? That does happen in this country you know, and sometimes the people are killed in the process. You are not as safe in your car as you think if you are sitting there gridlocked, and some freak is beating on your car with objects that could easily break your side window.. ( even a fist can do that if the person is wired or something )

    I wouldn't be taking a persons life for revenge in the situation proposed, it would be self defense and i would never regret it, not even for a second.. If the situation was different, sure id have driven off. ( of course i wouldn't have cut him off in the first place as i do not drive talking on a phone, but that isn't the point i was trying to make )

    Umm i didn't say threaten, i said kill.

    I don't pull my gun out to show it off, it only comes out if its going to be shot immediately, and only if the situation warrants death of the person to protect myself or my family. ( attacking my car like suggested in that post with me still in it would qualify )
