Its fairly easy to ID standard encrypted traffic and throttle or just outright block. This is something iv'e been talking about all along that people claimed wasn't possible. Once they ban non government 'blessed' encryption, it will just be blocked.
But at least in the meantime, while they can do packet shaping, they still cant snoop on content.
Once that happens we have to come up with practical 'transparent' encryption techniques.
Others remember the facts differently as they were actually there when it all went down, and not just reading some biased wiki page decades later and pretending to be an expert.
Biased, much as the moderation seems to be tonight, looking at my troll status on this. You kids need to get off my lawn.
Using some of the tech they just bought ( softgrid ) coupled with virtualPC/Server they could do the same i'm sure.
They have to break with the past soon to move forward and survive, but if they abandon the existing application base out of the gate, they will cut their own throats. ( sounds like apple again.. doesn't it )
As i look at the Bell Systems metal phone booth sign hanging over my desk ( its mounted on the wall ), ill never be convinced that it was a good idea.
Oh, and my lucite block with a piece of the local bell office's sign embedded in it from when the sign was removed after the breakup and subsequent name change, that sits on my desk next to my cup holder.
Sorry, *no one* can convince me otherwise, ever.
Oh, and i still have my original bluebox so don't call me jaded..
which pretty much created the telecommunications world as we currently know it
Don't you mean 'pretty much destroyed the industry and its benign monopolistic benefactor and made it the consumer oppressed shambles we have today' instead?
No troll, its how i honestly feel. I think our society in general has gone down hill since the advent of cheap and abundant personal communication devices.
They breed rudeness, and lack of consideration to others in general is a result.
If he's gone, we can see what happens. Until then, no, its not going to happen as they are still at war with everyone else on the software planet. Especially OSS.
He implied they were stuck in traffic ( speaking of his escape afterwards ) so you wouldn't be able just drive off to safety. ( and lets say he followed you.. what then? )
Ever been car jacked? That does happen in this country you know, and sometimes the people are killed in the process. You are not as safe in your car as you think if you are sitting there gridlocked, and some freak is beating on your car with objects that could easily break your side window.. ( even a fist can do that if the person is wired or something )
I wouldn't be taking a persons life for revenge in the situation proposed, it would be self defense and i would never regret it, not even for a second.. If the situation was different, sure id have driven off. ( of course i wouldn't have cut him off in the first place as i do not drive talking on a phone, but that isn't the point i was trying to make )
I don't pull my gun out to show it off, it only comes out if its going to be shot immediately, and only if the situation warrants death of the person to protect myself or my family. ( attacking my car like suggested in that post with me still in it would qualify )
There is really no "unlimited" bandwidth.
Then they shouldn't have sold it as such.
The second is conspiracy to commit infringement, and you will have lost any chance of defending with "I didn't know it was copyrighted"
Unless you don't know what is stored where.
For some of us that isn't a problem, since we don't believe in IP anyway.
Or at least that is what it sounds like to me from the summary.
If they throttle all traffic equally and advertise as such when you sign up, that would be cool with me.

Its always nice to be vindicated, again. Go me!
Bla bla bla bla.
*Your* facts.

In theory, yes. And it did bridge the gap.

Actually, i bet they could retain legacy application support using Virtual Machine technology.
While under ATT's control it was much healthier for both the telecomm industry and its customers then what we have now.
The technical advances that Bell Labs made could never have been recreated with what was left.
And as far as consumer protection, they were so heavily regulated that they couldn't have stepped out of line even if they wanted to.
The breakup was wrong and politically motivated.

How can it guard against a kid paying some adult a buck or two to get it for them?
It cant.
The easiest way to get a persistent session is to Use the regular vncserver from a SSH command line.
I do it all the time. I suggest you make sure to enable compression and don't go overboard with graphical apps if you access it from the WAN.

And TV, but dont get me started on that.
Its rude and offensive to use a phone ( or other communication device ) in public ( or in a meeting ) regardless of volume.
The practice should be outright banned unless its an emergency. ( and you should get jail time for a violation )
You really aren't paying attention to what I'm saying. ( either that or you are incapable. i don't know which, but i lean towards inability )
Have a nice day, I'm finished with you.
Cops want that today as well.

Umm i didn't say threaten, i said kill.

In that case, id would forbid sales of my software in that state without written pre-sale contract.
Just to protect myself.
The EULA's exempt holding the software maker for defects in their products anyway. Be them security holes or total meltdowns.
B - i didn't use the adjective loudly. Talking at all on the phone at the check out is rude.
