Does this mean we can finally crack down on those idiots that rattle your car from across the block with their car stereos playing that damned rap crap? If that isnt 'public performance' i dont know what is. ( cant call it music, but it is copyrighted at least )
Kill off the kernel, samba, oo, hell lets toss in some IP against KDE/GNOME while we are at it.. Tthats a big chunk of what people use, and what is left becomes a useless pile of 'tools' like the old days when we were waiting on HURD to appear... ( worst case that is )
First off, I dont ask for help of others. Im not hypocritical in that sence.
And while i do fully admit was extremely lucky to be born here in the 'westernized world', i have been on the bad side of things even here, due to a personal mistake, and i didnt ask for help while i spent time undoing it and climbing back out of the hole i dug for myself.
Oh, and dont assume i 'dont think that way' as its 'just to score cool points', as the raw truth would scare the hell out of you. ( as it should )
Cant remember a virus that would permanently effect my Atari ST.
Should have stuck with that concept, we dont need 5gb OS's sitting out on a writeable harddrive somewhere. Such a waste of resources and increased risk.
And before you bitch about "get out of the 80's" bla bla bla, keep in mind even XP embedded can run out of ROM ( and besides, i have yet to see a modern OS that is more resource friendly and 'better' then the old TOS/GEM combination. ).
No, i do undertand how it works. I just think its a waste of resources to give those people cheap computers ( or much of anything else, since those people are a drain on the world's resources, at best )
Ya, ill get modded down for that comment. Thats why i stuck with the '100 dollar laptop is a waste' in my original post and didnt expand on it. Oh well.
"Perhaps there are better things to do with our time and money in developing nations?"
You mean like shelter, food and doctors?
The entire idea was just stupid. It might be an idea for 2nd world countries and the poorer areas of 'developed' nations, but for 3rd world? They have much more important things to worry about then having a computer.
for a long time, it will be both of them fighting YOU, not them fighting each other. Remember, they are partners now and out to stomp everyone else. ( and plenty of cash to pull it off )
Once the rest of the linux landscape dries up due to fear or outright legal war, then microsoft will just pull the plug on the partnership. and *poof* goes novell.
Its not just about using Novell as a scapegoat, it puts in to question any code from here on out. You want to be damned sure it wasn't 'infected' before you stake your company on it, for most any purpose.
With a just few million well spent, microsoft may have just killed off the entire game with pure fear alone.
Personally i think access should be free, and i CHOOSE to share my wifi with the world. So you think im a criminal? How about all the libraries that give it out for free.. How about municpial access? Its free..
Wake up and join the rest of us in reality.
oh, and if its 'wide open' there isnt any 'breaking into' it.
Everything is not a match for giving away free. If you cant find a buisiness model to support it, seems you fall in to the 'it doenst make sence' category.
Sorry for not understanding the makeup of Japan these days, but why use Chinese people? Do they just make up the underclass and a cheap labor force, or was ther some more sinister thing going on to ship back horsepower to the 'motherland'?
The fact people were being paid to stand in lne doesnt sound in the least bit wrong to me. Its 'work' for the day. ( well, for a video game it sounds silly, but still, they did a bit of *reasonable* work and got paid.. whats the problem with that? ).
I thought by now pretty much all police cars had them, they are invaluable in court.
And while i dont condone unwarranted violence, try walking in their shoes for a night: Being attacked, perhaps killed at any turn. Everyone you meet is trying to get away with something. Can things get out of hand unintentionally in that environment? Sure.
"There are a small number of very vocal people who are total assholes towards people."
Change that to there are a LARGE number of very vocal people.....
Not that efficient yet, but its well within the realm of possibility
Would be great to use for direct conversion of th heat coming off *waste* nuclear fuel.
And then hope they dont tag you incorrectly then deactivate you?
just beacuse you are legal doesnt exempt you from it screwing up.
But they will make damned sure that it wont run 'right'.
Arrest him please. He has forbidden knowledge.
Cool, someone got it right for a change.

Dark times are coming in the 'free' world.
I bet they already did. And at the worst moment they will pull a rabbit out of their hat.
This novell deal just gets more code/IP into place for the eventual 'takedown'.
Advice: get and save all the code you can now, before it all goes away and leaves us with nothing.

Doesnt have to be 'windows code' to be a problem. Just concepts can get you into trouble.
Remember the trashcan debacle?
Step 1: we have lots of patents, but we wont sue you. ( and keep building the list up for later )
Step 2: We have lots of patents, but we wont sue you if you arent making money. ( continue to build )
Step 3: get hooked up with a Linux vendor.
Step 4: "gee, you guys are infringing us" "we never realized how bad it was"
Step 5: All out legal assult.
If you didnt see this coming you are stupid.
Well, some of us do and think todays processors are overkill and needed mainaly due to people having forgot how to code properly.
Who is to decide it was frivolous? He might have been serious, which would constitute fraud if they ignored it.
I know i would be serious.

This isn't about 'good fruits' as you put it These are large corporations that are in business to make money and increase share worth. Period.
