Eventually i bet your data hits an ATT network on its way from here to there. They are the largest on the planet.
I wonder if this info gets passed down to people that use their network but thru resell service.
And who ever said you had a right to privacy when you voluntarily sign up for a COMMERCIAL service. The only argument for privacy is with the government, if you have some sort of law that protects it. Like we do here in the US.. Not all people in the world have that right guaranteed.
Anytime you have a business, expect to have people sue you just to try to make a buck. Even when you are in the right, it gets expensive to keep going to court all the time.
Too bad you cant countersue to get your expenses back from stupid stuff like this.
You mean that by now you haven't seen any of those 'zipper packs' that hold anywhere from 25 to 250 in something that resembles a 3ring binder with 'sides'.. They are sold *everywhere*.. even in damned gas stations..
If you want it electronic, get one of those 'carousels'.
For a super low-tech DIY storage device, get a dowel rod, some wood and some pvc pipe and a sharpie.
Dont forget, they feel the GPL is invalid an unenforceable. So why is this strange?
Im not commenting on the reality that the GPL is, or isnt, enforceable, just that the canopy group has made this statement before so they are not the least bit concerned of a 'backlash'.
In a bit OT note: Its really a shame that the good name of "SCO" was tarnished in all this. Even in the beginning Caldera ( linux ) wasnt all that bad of a company/distro. Its the lawyers that got a hold of both names ( cant say they got ahold of the companies really.. its all just a name shell game ) and ruined them.
Its not quite that bad, but yes, stalling the case for a year has gained them much more revenue in the country than the 65M fine. Its just consider a 'cost of doing business'.
We have a radio station in town that was similar. They would regularly violate FCC broadcast power and obscenity rules. However, the extra distance ( power ) and listeners ( obscenity ) far outweighed the fines they incurred and just made jokes about it ( on air even ). The process continued for years until they were top dog in that market and didnt need to do it anymore.
Once he war is over, and the opposition is wiped off the face of the map, you can expect the prices to return, then exceed, what we have seen so to date.
The reason noone has mentioned it is that few around here know about it. is easier just to say 'access sux' and move on, then actually LOOK at it.. it also gives power to the user, which many people are against ( gotta keep them on the leash.. need more contract time )
Sure its got its weaknesses and limitations, but its got its strengths as well, and should be given much more credit then it gets. ( even if it is a microsoft product:) )
If trained properly the same secretary can create a good enough Access GUI/SQL backend to do the job, without having to spend tons of mony on an IT person to do it for them then dissapear just when they need help, costing them more money.
Its not 'VB people' that have claimed its a dead end product. *microsoft* has stated its a dead product and will *never* be updated. The are to release a extension of some sort in a year or two to help it play better with NET, but its a dead end product.
If you know VFP, then fine, but don't waste resources learning it... Choose something that has a future.
It was great in its day, but MS has moved on to push other products, and left it behind.
The problem with your idea is that it does NOT address the GUI part of the equation.
Having a centralized databases is fine and dandy, but if your users cant get to the data, so what? Access lets the common man get to his data without needing a IT department to come hold their hand all the time.
Sure, keep the data stored away safe, but don't take the tools away from your users too.
I personally have *never* downloaded anything that i was going to buy. If it wasn't available for free, and i didn't feel it was of any monetary value, id have done without. If its something i felt was worth money, i bought it. No one has lost a single dime in 'potential sales' from me due to piracy. However, they have lost out on all of my entertainment money due to their being an ass, as i refuse to buy anything from the 'industry' due to their actions. I know im not alone.
I am sick of it being called theft, and the total lies about the numbers. Screw them.
Then he wasnt arrested for getting FREE wifi, he was arrested for trespassing? Wasnt able to load the story.
If he was NOT on their property, my original statement/question still applies.
Ummm who dies if you hack a laptop? Lets not make it sound worse then it is. Thats as bad as calling 'piracy' a form of terrorism.
If so, then there is no case.. If it wasnt free, it should have been protected in some way.
Its like arresting you for watching the tvs at the local superstore.
This should be under 'its funny, laugh'

This is how politics work. Nothing new here.
too bad your pet peeves dont matter only mine And only mine.
*shudder*... site..
just a pet peeve of mine, sorry about that.
And while oracle does cost a hell of a lot, sometimes its the right choice.

Everyone sells out at some point.
Craigslist will be no different once the smell of money corrupts them enough. Its the way of the world.
At the rate things are going, that wont be a problem much longer. Unless you make your own film it will be hard to get.
:)
And no, its not some MPAA plot to get film declared a 'tool for piracy', or is it?

To the government, everyone IS a suspect.

Now THAT crosses the line and should cause the law to be stuck down.
Speech is free for a reason.
Sorry, but i dont agree at all, as long as the data store is on SQL, and you know what you are doing, Access GUI is fine.
It 'breaks' just as often as everything else.

Ive used postgres ODBC with Access ( just expremental, we have real MicroSoft SQL licenses ) and it seemed to do fine.
Using the native jet database is bad anyway, as you mentioned.
Couple Access with SQL server, and its pretty decent if you do things properly.
Access gets a bad rap beacuse so many people so such bad things with it.. Rather unfairly.
