You should be able expect a certain level of anonymity out in public, as a law abiding citizen. Sure you can be seen by others, and observed, but that is far different then being identified, tracked and logged.
Just because your actions are 'innocent' and 'I dont have anything to hide' doesnt give anyone the right to investigate you. Its none of their business.
Oh, and remember i paid my part of that sidewalk too. And we are not talking about a 'dumb' security camera stuck on a wall here.
To watch, identify, and track people as they mill around on the side walk minding their own business, commiting no crime. Just cant allow people to live their daily lives anonymously can we.
Show me what is being deprived? The original holder still has their data and is free to do what they were doing with it before i downloaded it. The original data is not diminished in any way..
Using the excuse of "potential sales" isn't tangable.
Now, if i *steal* a cdrom from the store, the original is now gone and there is a tangable identifiable loss.
While both may be illegal, they are NOT the same thing.
Notice it specified only endorsing a candidate or engaging in political speech.
So if its neither, such as a discussion about how bad your car is, or some technical discussion about evolution, then its not protected online.
Oh, and they always have a choice. They can restrict our rights as much as they want in law. Then its up to us to take them to court to prove they have overstepped their bounds and have the law tossed. On our dime.
The ASP idea failed the first 1000 times it was tried. I dont think its going to make it this time either, even if technology has finally caught up with the idea.
Who around here wants to lease their applications and be denied access to their data if they keep paying each month? Not I for one.
Im sure metered use is not far behind. 50 bucks get you connected, but if you want to USE it, its a per byte charge. More if you want to actually access content not provided by your isp.
My local library easly has thousands more books then you and its not a bit hard to find anything. Just start cataloging your books like the pros do. Has worked for generations.
They already do this. Most any software written on the taxpayer dime is available to the public, today. All you have to do is knw the right channels to go thru.
But Theo wanted to be an ass, and lost the funding. I bet if he had played his cards right, the project would have been set for the rest of his life. But . noooo he had to 'stand up for what he felt was right'. Now hes about bankrupt. Go figure.

of an operating system. Sure, thats useful. Thanks?
Except for the reality of the situation that one is theft and one isnt..
Must be nice to have enough power to go buy your own laws when you feel like it.
That would be 'rich, monopolistic thieves'.
And dont be suprsied if we dont get those laws here in the US, or worse... Remember the WTO? They will mandate all other members follow suit.

Going to space is hard, and risky. To get it right will take a few brusies. Thankfully no one had to die to learn todays lesson.
Wouldnt this waste a *lot* of space for items like shortcuts, weblinks, C modules..
I realize that drives are getting bigger and bigger, but is that an excuse to waste ?
They proved that by being a prick, they can get nice things taken away from everyone.
I hope they are proud of themselves, and that we meet up in a dark alley someday.

What garbage. "Golden Goose, meet hatchet"
No, its the end of the internet. Something will still exist for those that care ( and pay ), but the 'internet' will cease to exist.
Useless toy? Only if you were incompetent.

I was going to actually respond, but after you decided to resort to name calling, decided you arent worth it.
Try getting a life.
Which in reality, for a security agency, would be a risk in the first place. This isnt some burger joint, here risks matter.
No one is saying the FBI are idiots, and have no email. Or dont know how to use it. Just that they dont yet have external email. Not a big deal.

Shows you how far 'morals' go in todays society.
For that sort of money you can use OSS and hire a well trained support dude.
Man thats expensive. Tho i hear Microsoft SQL2005 will be approaching the same ( silly ) cost levels.
Tomrrow, dissident speech and knowledge.
Sharp did this a while ago with a Z80 core.

Or tax shuffle? Never trust the government when they float the words 'tax credit'
"sorry, you just dont fit our needs" A rather abstract concept. But effective.
