Unless you are still running win3.1, eventually you will 'upgrade' if you want to use windows. Drivers wont exist for old machines, software wont run.. They will win in the end.
So Google isnt paying for its network connectivity? Cool. Where do you sign up?
Last i heard you had to pay to get a connection, so its not a 'free lunch'.. Sour grapes perhaps, but no free bandwidth.
God help us once deregulation takes place. Think your phone bill is high now? Think your internet is high? Do you like having choice in content? Welp... just wait.. its gonna get a lot worse.
IBM just sold off the produciton and distribution of desktops and thinkpads to china.. They didnt sell off the research department, or 'PC server' production, or 'big iron'. ( unless they did this recently and didnt tell the rest of us ).
You are correct, except that in the contract you agreed too, they have the right to change terms at any time as they feel fit. Your only permited recourse is to stop service.
Their lawyers are bigger then yours..
Unless of course you got business class service with a legally binding TOS contract attached. Then you might have a legal leg to stand on. ( until they just cancel the contract on you for being a PITA that is )
I bet i give more then the average person. And i do live a spartan life, as much as is practical in the 21st century and still provide an income to provide for my family, with adopted children.
When was the last time you donated blood, plasma.. ( and didnt take the $ in return ) or just time? I didnt see you out helping out after the last natural disaster, did I?
Then you arent thinking.
And the point?
I'm talking about drivers for new hardware for old OS, not old machines.. Old machines and old OS's are covered, i agree.
Try finding drivers for 98 on many new machines today.. Sometimes they dont exist.
I dont think they will care much as long as they continue to make money and stay out of jail themselves.
Never is a long time.

Great way to get the 'hold outs' to upgrade faster to the nice shiny DRM enabled hardware.
Make it impossible to run the 'trusted OS' that will be needed to run next years applications.
The power wasted in todays applications is almost obscene.
"When people actually owned things and didnt have to pay every month for everything?"
Can you say Newton?
Ever tried installing MSO 2003 on 98? Gotta pull support at some point.
Granted this is rather fast, but noone said they have to keep writing apps for 'old' products at all.
What happens when the ratio of content vs monitoring flipflops..
i guess that is when we can change our name from USA to USSA...
Get it right for once.. will ya?
Sounds like a dupe to me.. Perhaps they need to use some of that 'intelligence' from the book.. build a 'dupe scanner'.
What if you dont carry them to term? Just stay pregnant most of the time, and live forever.
Dont you mean 'restart' their PDA line?
Apple CREATED the pda market back in the 80s. They also let Palm take it from them..

This should have been part of the protocol from the beginning anyway.
Not due to some 'lets hide our traffic' thing, but just out of common sense in todays world. Nothing should be 'open' at this point.

Umm, if you are on the clock you dont have a right to 'hide'.. You dont like being tracked and br held accountable for your workday actions? Too bad.

Its a *total* waste of resources was my point. Using your analogy of 'its for the people': if we lost '10s of thousands' of idiots, no great loss.
Looking at the rather skimpy article, it doesnt appear to be a hologram, any more then the special effects were in the movie it references.
holograms *require* interferrence patterns.. i dont see that happening with this product.
At least those are state based, and not used to track your day to day movements.
Yes i know there is talk of going to a federally based ID instead, with realtime tracking of citizens. But we arent there, yet.
How about using all these resources for something useful.. like ending hunger.. or curing some illness.. or even going to mars..
its a f-ing BALL GAME.. geesh.
ya, i know i know.. mod me down..
If you read the story more closely its only for Federal employees and contractors, for now.
That will of course be expanded in the future, but for now just avoid being employeed at the federal level and you are set.
Just the fact that such a standard even exists is rather scary.
Who wants to take odds on how long before these ID cards are made manadatory for all US citizens? "for our safety".
