Really.. if you are broadcasting personal info to the world unencrypted, who cares if its Google or your neighbor collecting it? Its your own damned fault.
Dont like it, either encrypt or prevent your signal from invading my space ( perhaps ill just sue you for that 2nd part.. )
Sorry, but the handwriting is on the wall. 99% of publications will become exclusively electronic at some point, for a number of reasons. It may be a generation or two but that its the future.
All you will see in print will be 'special' items ( large format art, etc ), and run of the mill stuff will vanish off paper.
Just to get static address I never had to do that back in the old days. ( well nothing beyond what you would do in order to have any telecom service.. as someone has to pay the bill remember ) Not saying you didn't, but not everyone had to.
True, it does take the 'extra step', but that doesn't negate a need for it. There are plenty of apps out there that *only* work on rooted/Jail broken devices. Just because the newbie-joe cant do it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.
As far as 'the only way avoid tracking is to have skill' idea, we have already passed that point, long ago.
So, we just need a applet that every so often will generate a random new mac address for your device. Sure, if its in the middle of the day you lose connection for a moment, but is that really that big of a deal on a phone/tablet?
Of course i have been saying for years that eventually you will have to register your mac address(es) of all your devices at time of purchase and it will become a crime to spoof. Along with being handed out your assigned block of ipv6, again for tracking reasons.
I really doubt it. Metal printing isn't new, and i guarantee you that someone has made a firearm before using "additive machining". You just haven't heard about it as most people who do things like that don't run off and post on youtube.
Now, when the printer isn't $500k+ and instead is affordable by the average guy, THEN you have a cool story. And to be honest, if you have the $ to spend on a printer like that, you could get a CNC machine and do it the traditional way just as easily ( and have a far more durable product ).
That would be "to steal". I dont care if you think he should have or not, he STOLE classified documents and released them to people without the proper clearances, without permission.
Perhaps not 'evil' in the strictest definition, but i personally have a problem with them restricting what their users can do with their own equipment. I also see a problem with them conveniently turning a blind eye to 3rd parties doing cool things to allow more market penetration, then yanking the rug out from underneath everyone.
And yes i know you have 'choice' not to use their products and services, but when there are only 3 real players in the game that are as bad as Google is becoming, do you really have a choice?
I agree that its the sign of a company that needs to mature.
While i can fully understand 'projects' coming and going as not all will make the cut, but when you start mucking around with front line business apps like this, you are a fool.
Yes i know how it works.
1 - this topic was about WiFi and you can use encryption if you like
2 - if you broadcast anything encrypted you are a moron.
Exactly.
I wont say they don't have the right to spend their money on what they want, but with people starving in the world this is offensive.
Do you have a TOS agreement page? If not, then your argument of 'only for people' is null and void.
You are new to the earth i see, enjoy your stay.

I have one to sell you if you believe him. And i will toss in a bag of extremely rare muffler bearings.
And it always has. Just now its far stronger and targeted.
I'm sure that was their intent, and goal, but the realities of business sometimes get in the way of the best intentions.
Being 'good' doesn't count if you cant stay in busiuness.
Thanks Google, for sucking it dry on more things i DON'T want.
This is way out of line.

And in the meantime, the criminals will just leave their electronic devices at home. - at least the smart ones. The terrorists will have none.
No, they will spoof honest citizens mac addresses.
We stuck a small TV transformer on the local power companies street level distribution transformer..
Without ubuntu, linux would not be in such a good shape.
Many would disagree with that statement.
Is a clear sign you have business problems. ( and perhaps some personal ones too )

They all suck. So what is your point?
.. But today you are actually rewarded for being a socialist. ( which was what they used the term communist for back then.. not true Communism )
