    When you walk into to many malls you will see a sign 'no photography' once you violate that you are trespassing. ( among other rules, such as foul language, etc )

    I agree it densest apply to public property, but a mall isn't that.

    Exactly my point, and they shouldn't risk their lives over some punk that isn't following orders. Resist, make suspicious moves, game over and you go home in a box, as one less criminal on the street to have to deal with.

    At least in the US a mall is private property, and you have to have permission to take pictures.

    So, in theory he had no legal right to do what he did, and would have been subject to arrest at the request of mall management.

    Sure, location could be gathered but that doesn't always tell you much ' he was in a Starbucks making a call ', its who you call when that is a bigger deal.

    Also, i was thinking wifi, and turning off the cell radio. Harder to track that way. Plus this is all done on a throaway ( used or other cash market ) cellphone so it isnt traced back to you personally.

    Assumption is that proper encryption is being used, of course if its not then all bets are off.

    However in this economy if you have to choose between a pc that can do school work and play a game decenly and a device that can only play games great since it has dedicated hardware optimized for pushing pixels, guess which one wins.

    I do agree that they are becoming less relevant for the average household but they are not obsolete.

    From what i remember, it wasnt designed to be all that secure, and beisdes, it wasnt theirs anyway. It was rebranded/licensed from SCO, back when they were still a legit company producing code.

    And dont forget even MSDOS wasnt original in the beginning, they bought ( stole ) it from another company.

    Hell they even had to buy SQL server from another company to get that started.. ( have they ever had a true original thought from the beginning? )

    Overall microsoft is a huge joke, and would have never had a chance if it wasnt for their founding unfair advantage with ibm that give them the upper hand in the market.

    If he didnt have the inside track and CP/M was given a fair chance with the PC, the landscape would be far different today.

    As others will/have said, no you dont own the copy. You own the media, you have a license for the conetnt.

    And DeCSS was designed to restrict your use and make you pay more for every device you want to view it on by forcing you to get another license. It is not for interoperability

    More important of a story would be 'what will internet life be after google', as its not a matter of if, but when they get beat down by the Feds, pushed along by Google's competition.

    Wait until you see KDE running on it first, i bet it will be dismal and defeat the whole purpose and turn people off of 'alternatives' permanently.

    To the average guy, percieved speed is more important than openness, or even cost.

    I doubt it, at least at a practical level. So what if there are 10x more phones than desktops? The real 'work' is still being done on windows and microsoft is still making tons of cash.

    Same goes for ARM, there may be more ARM chips out there but the desktop still may be owned by x86.

    Now id like to see both Microsoft and Intel go away and i bet in time this will happen, but im trying to be realistic too. 2016 is right around the corner, and i dont see that drastic of a change that fast.
