    If you are running old hardware like this, its most likely because you either cant afford to upgrade, so having to buy this is a show stopper, or you need specific support for something, which you would lose even if it was free.

    If you just like old stuff, ( many do ) there are free alternatives still, so again, why would i pay?

    And what sort of desktop environment in 2012 doesn't support wireless in some manner? wtf?

    That is what i would do.if i was traveling abroad, id never let it out of my hand, and no 'Velcro flaps' either. All zipped up with a lock, even as i was holding it. ( hell i don't even leave my stuff unattended here in the states during a convention, we have thieves here too )

    And i agree, it wasn't some grand conspiracy and they weren't targeting RMS personally, so it's a non story: "foreign traveler lost bag with belongings" *yawn*

    ( tho knowing RMS, he may think it was personal and the 'man' is out to get him )

    This is because RIM is 'corporate' orientated, so its a natural for Microsoft. Nokia, is consumer oriented ( Apple's territory )

    But, considering all their handset technology is different, would it be wroth the trouble/money just to get the BES, that wont work with a windows phone anyway?

    More likely they will both just fade away and someone like Google will grab the patents just before they go under water forever.

    As long as the government doesn't start using the 'public data' to track your every movement and associations, i agree.

    while not being able to look at another person is sort of silly, i wouldn't be surprised if they start banning cameras in public.

    I'm as much for privacy as anyone else but if i can stand on the street corner and see something, there is no reason Google cant record it too.

    Don't want to be on Google, don't do whatever you are doing within sight of the street....

    Most people are stupid.

    I don't consider 'applied' chemistry like that as real chemistry. With no understanding, its not a science.

    Chemistry is understanding why you are mixing while baking is just following the recipe.

    If you use the current single pot method, its more like baking then chemistry. Besides you don't have to understand the process behind why you 'mix a with b and heat'. It just means you can follow directions..

    I guess baking is still a good skill to have, as most people like to eat.

    I take it you have never even seen a mainframe in person or understand what actual data is sent to a dumb terminal ( hint, none ). Basically, if you were not there you really don't have anything useful to say.

    And if you WERE around back then, you obviously missed the point of what was (is) going on.

    Well, regardless of the 'control' people want it is the right way to do things, if you do it properly and have the bandwidth behind it to push all the pretty pixels around that is.

    Tho its true that back in mainframe days bandwidth wasn't a real issue.. but the last time we try the cloud thing the bandwidth wasn't there and it left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths.

    A dirty bomb would be brain dead simple to build, and just use common sense. ( well, and lots of $ for the supplies and delivery system.... but complexity is about nil )

    I'm not sure if you should consider doing business with a '3rd' party as a public act. That would have some serous ramifications for consumer privacy.

    That said, if the contract with Google ( there is one..and you agree to to by use ) says they can hand over your searches at will, i agree there are no guarantee there.. However, the issue here is the police using this data to predict crime, not doing research for a current ( judge sponsored ) investigation for evidence.
