  1. Firefox? on Insecure Plugins Ding IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera · · Score: 2, Interesting

I noticed that Firefox / Mozilla was left out of the title list of insecure plugins. I'm certain this problem applies to it as well (particularly since it gets mentioned in the summary below). Innocent slip or ulterior motive of the anti-IE crowd?

  3. Wrong again idiot! on Futurama Movie Set For November 27 · · Score: 0, Troll

The DVD format does not come in high-def. At the very most, they are referring to 480P which might be termed enhanced-def at best.

I have a AMD K6-2 processor and motherboard that sat in a paper grocery bag with several loose 9V batteries for an entire year. This bag was in the family room of my college apartment and I had nine roomates. Later I took the motherboard and processor and put it in a case . . . it still works. I'm currently using it as a webserver and it has been up for over 30 weeks straight. This is the truth. If you don't believe me, check out http://www.gearedsteel.com/ to see for yourself.

  11. Cheap and Big on Bulk Data Storage For The Common Man? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Tape Drives - Probably the cheapest way to store large amounts of information. The only drawback is that they aren't fast. However, If your harddrives are large enough to hold the data you are currently working on and tapes are used exclusively for backup then a speed problem shouldn't be . . . a problem.

  12. Let's Be Fair on Pigeons' Bandwidth Advantage Quantified · · Score: 1

There were three pigeons, so shouldn't we divide the 2.27Mbps by three? Or at least assume three seperate ADSL lines? Really, the bandwidth of a pigeon is 2.27/3=.756Mbps. That's very close to 768Kbps found in a lot of DSL packages. I'd say that your average pigeon has the same bandwidth as DSL. Interestingly enough, as technology increases both the ability to fit more memory in a pigeon ready device and bandwidth should increase. I wonder which will grow faster?

This could most certainly be the killer app for the new blue laser (maybe ultraviolet) DVD's. I figure they will both arrive at approximately the same time given the standard number of research setbacks. If 1 out of 1,000,000 spams gets a sale, then it is in the spammer's best interest to spam more people and therefore generate more sales. Spam will only stop if the consumer stops allowing it to be a finacially viable form of advertising. More should be done to inform the consumer, i.e. reciever of spam.

  24. Do it Yourself on Gaming on the IMAX · · Score: 2, Interesting

While not quite up to IMAX standard, most college students can use lecture halls after hours for their own purposes. It's actually quite easy to do. I started by calling the Union and getting the central reservation office number for the university. I admit, it's not eight stories tall, but Quake is quite cool on 30ft screen too. Most major lecture halls have projectors with VGA and RCA in for both computers and game systems. Just a thought if you can't compete in the contest yourself.

  25. The Truth is... on The Culture of CD Burning · · Score: 1

Given the theoretical situation where I would not get into academic trouble for giving out my paper, I'd have no problem with sharing it so that other's could get A's. Especially when I would be able to use someone else's paper and get an A myself. That's open source. To me it sounds great, share my work and end up doing less work overall with greater benefit (all A's). Perhaps the musicians, who must appreciate other's music as well, need to see that if they share theirs [music], they get much more in return [the rest of the world's music].
