You are giving Trump too much credit. He is saying "look over here at this naughty Amazon" because someone recently told him that the WaPo lambasted him again. But tomorrow someone will whisper something else in his ear and he will be off on another different and pointless mission/tweetStorm.

I usually hate corporations and everything they do, but one thing Slashdot has taught me is that corporations operate to make the most money at the least cost, period. Trumps problem is really with the way capitalism works today, and I certainly hope he decides to make wise changes in that regard.

Trumps problem is that he is only concerned about himself and his self image. His problem with Amazon is Bezos's criticism of Trump . His only problem with taxes is simply he personally wants to pay none. He will not make any wise changes to capitalism (or anything else) because he lacks the ability to think beyond himself and his immediate personal needs, much like a 4 year-old child.

This is in reference to the post office subsidizing Amazon deliveries.

Short summary: Amazon pays $1.46 per package less than it actually costs to deliver. That is absolutely Amazon's gain at the expense of the post office.

If you doubt the post office is in a special relationship, what other company gets Sunday delivery for the post office? How is that fair to the workers, it's not like the post office charges Amazon more for that. They deliver the most mundane things on a Sunday, it's not even special orders...

This is why I like Trump's tweets quite a bit, as he seems to have a habit of making public things people seem to want to hide or ignore.

You are apparently under the illusion that USPS is forced to give Amazon a special deal. WTF, you are a dumbass.

  16. Re:Water shipped in plastic contains...plastics? on Microplastics Found In 93 Percent of Bottled Water Tested In Global Study (www.cbc.ca) · · Score: 1

How much of the water is actually filtered? I know where I live, most all tap water isn't filtered (well, large filters at the intake to stop fish and such), and the bottled water from springs, aquifers and glaciers, I'd assume aren't filtered.

I think most muni water systems are filtered. The amount of filtratration probably depends on teh source. The town where I grew up has a spring that pushes out a lot of already pretty pure water. But surface waters usually require some hefty filtration.

I built a swimming pool a few years ago, filled it with municipal water (ie - water tested/treated to applicable standards). Before turning on the pool filter and chemical treatment, it was DISGUSTING to the naked eye - green/muddy, tons of particulate. This was in Maine, where good quality water (ie, you would drink it upon inspection if you needed it) is easily found. A glassful dipped out of the pool looked ok, nothing you wouldn't drink. Only the depth of water I was looking at allowed me (unaided) to see what the water was really like. Lessons learned: A) You drink a lot of crap you (normally) cannot see. B) Municipal water (tested, good-to-go) is absolutely not sparkling 'pure', hopefully just devoid of really bad pathogens.

  18. You lose consciousness when you sleep. Beyond the unlikelihood of it being possible [right now], you have no way of knowing if the you that wakes up in the morning is the same you that went to bed. Someone could have sneaked in, gassed your room to keep you knocked out, copied your current brain, removed your knocked out self and put a copy of yourself in the bed. Hell, the copy could even have altered past memories and without the support others and external things (videos, photos, diaries, etc.) you'd have no way of knowing if there is validity in those memories. Gassed "you" could be put in cryo or dropped in a vat of acid, and copy you would continue on thinking everything is business as usual.

I feel too many people view this whole thing from a 3rd person/god perspective, which has complete knowledge, without considering the 1st person perspective experience of being in the "now" with limited knowledge. Its only in the experience of the "now" that you know you are alive, hence why I think loss of consciousness should be viewed as death instead of your heart stopping or your brain being destroyed (which both lead to the state of loss of consciousness).

I find Occam's Razor a good way to dispel ideas that are a complete waste of time.
