God, I'm glad we got that number out in the open, because that "review" is the worst written thing I have ever read. If I have to go back and re-read whole sections because each sentence in a paragrah has some kind of twisting grammatical errors, then I say screw it.

I loved Idoru. It was much better than Neuromancer, in my opinion. It's kinda cool to know that your opinion of a book is in line with the author.

I'd like to say that no matter how much I tend to dislike Katz's writing style, that I refuse to bash it. He has plenty to say and some of the time it is even logical.

That out of the way, I would like to say that I dislike the blatant direction that Katz steers the usage of the W.A.V.E. program. I am not saying that it is a good program, far from it, but I tire of the "pandering to the geek" mentality.

This program, if it goes into effect and is not monitored somehow, will be abused by anyone that can. Just imagine a high school full of students that get into petty fights everyday. Go ahead, I don't think that is hard to imagine. Now give those students an anonymous outlet to attack the person who they fought with. I don't care who the people are, it wouldn't necessarily be the outcast picked on. This has the possibility to be abused by anyone, against anyone. The head cheerleader has a bone to pick with some freshman girl, so she turns her in, and so the story goes.

These scenarios and many more are just over the horizon when identifying troubled people is left in the hands of their peers, especially at the ages (lifespan and maturity) that most students in school are at.

So, this program stinks, but let's not pandering to the outcasts. It stinks because it adds a level of tattle-tale to it. A sort of snitch mentality where you have to fear who is gonna turn you in.

No offense, but I don't think him playing Quake or CS have anything to do with what seems a skill that he shouldn't have.

There is absolutely no correlation between the two. In both games you aim (usually with a mouse) and click. All that teaches you is quick motor-reflexes and how to anticipate actions. And, of course, how to predict the blast radius of the ever changing rocket launcher.

When firing a rifle/pistol, there is actual body control involved. Using a scope or raw sights means your brother has very some level of control over his body. He is smooth, doesn't shake munch, and is a very precise shot.

It's not as if pointing a mouse and being able to rest a rifle in your shoulder are similar. Besides, in many cases, video games have lax physical rules about the exact spot to hit someone and produce damage.

It's just silly to say that learning how to gib someone in your favorite game means you're going to be able to go out and fire a pistol, or rifle, like the best marksmans out there.

I believe that the sentiment of his comment is that there is a time and a place for government action, and legislating digital music is not one of them. The whole idea that the government needs to be involved in this ordeal seems non-sensical and frivolous. There are plenty of other things that our government needs to direct their attention to. Sure, the DMCA is bad and the government created it, but that's just another token of things that the government should not be sticking it's nose into.

I guess my point is that there is definitely lots of issues that need to be resolved, and digital music just might be one of them, but where exactly does the government need to be in all of this? Nowhere, it should be a consumer->business or business->consumer process. All the government does is cater to the most influential force and crash under it's weight.

Actually, the way you broke the MCMCMMMMMVIII down isn't quite right either. Trivial as it is, and right as your answer was, it would actually be...

    M + CM + CM + M + M + M + M + VIII = 6808

I guess everyone uses their own way of doing Roman Numerals, but if you follow a standard then you can break any long string of numerals down into their correct decimal equivalent.

Trivial, but thought I'd add my 2 cents worth.

actually, the only viruses that can propogate themselves are macro viruses or ones of that nature. viruses are just programs running on a system unwanted by the user, normally malicious in their design.

remember back in the day of dos, mbr viruses couldn't spread from one machine to the next, it had to be spread by the user through the transfer of files and information. the viruses were normally just memory-resident programs, waiting to do something.
