4 years ago, I was buying a "new" PC. Given the choice between the less expensive nVidia and the more expensive ATI, I stuck with the brand I had heard of (never heard of nVidia before) and went with the ATI. Wrong choice. It was an ATI Rage 64 or something, I forget, Rage LT PRO, I think it was. There was NO hardware 3D OGL acceleration, and minimal D3D. Out rolled a new DX release, and out rolls a buggy as hell uncertified driver. It took them like 10 releases to get it right, and they still didn't have hardware support. Under Linux, the situation was somewhat better - the opensource drivers used acceleration, and I got a lot better frame rates. But it would lock all IO on the box until I telnetted in and chvt'd on occasion - and sometimes it wouldn't even let me telnet!
So the point I'm trying to make is, for your own good, don't buy it. Not flamebait, but just wait until you see the EXACT CARD in the EXACT BOX you're getting running the EXACT SOFTWARE you're gonna run. For your own sake.
Actually, I don't really want to be subscribed. What I really want is to be able to go and donate $25 to/. as a "Tip Jar". Or something like "giving" subscriptions, as in paying $5 and the next 1000 ACs won't have ads, or a friend of mine won't have ads. I'd even pay a premium for that, if it went to/.... (Slashdot, dot dot dot....)

Interesting idea. Possible having us be able to select our ads? (I.E. 3/5 of the time, I want NO ads, 1/5 I want OSDN sites, 1/5 be devoted to just ThinkGeek, and 0/5 do I want DoubleClick)
There is one way that we can solve this.... I know I've been dying to try this "Lindows" stuff.... Someone upload a Lindows ISO to an FTP, it's perfectly legal under the GPL, AFAIK. But, IANAL. (Enough acronyms?)

Does it have support for installing to ReiserFS? I'm using SuSE right now with ReiserFS, I've had power outages, X-related panics, and all sorts of crap happen to the box, and it reboots flawlessly. Now OTOH, (at least with the older versions) if I power off a RH Ext2 box hard, I have to reinstall the distro.
NOT FUN.
So, does it? Not ext3, Ext3 has been supported from a while AFAIK, but I still have vividly horrible memories of ext2, but ReiserFS.
IIRC, this is a dupe, plus it's old news. I've had the demo for about 2 or 3 months, running Trillian well (but Y! crashes), and Media Player perfectly. My only gripe is that it doesn't install those fonts into X... *envisions a world with fonts that weren't awful*

No, default OSX shell is CSH, AFAIK.
By the way, has anyone checked out MudSH? That's pretty cool. There's a demo of it running on Char.TV's telnet server.
HEH. Long story, but I'll make it short.

What?! Picking up white flags is not the whole game.
Some servers preserve the true CtF aspect of it: team play, grab the flag and bring it back to your side. That is IMHO the best aspect of the game.
BTW, I am porting the latest (1.8 == CVS) to Dreamcast... I'll let you guys know how it goes (especially b/c lwIP just got ported to DC.)

But that's no excuse for flaky FS drivers.
