    If the problem was solely using the sensory data to get from A to B, they would have just run it in a simulation. However, some platforms might be easier to control than others. It is much more difficult to drive an 18-wheeler across the dessert than an All-Terrain Vehicle.

    Providing everybody with a humvee is the wrong way to attack the problem. You are making the assumption that the humvee is the best platform to complete the challenge. I think the SciAutonics II team just proved that the humvee platform is not necessarily the best. They came up with a different platform that made also made it 7 miles.Perhaps the best platform has yet to be thought up. By specifying too much up front you could actually eliminate the best possible solution.

    You have 2.0555 Terraflops per million dollars.

    That means it's $485k per Terraflop.

    That would mean it's still over 1.5 times as expensive.

    $3 million for 3.7 Terraflop = $810k per Terraflop

    $5.2 million for 17.6 Terraflop = $295k per Terraflop

    Which means the Dell is 2.75 times more expensive.

    Plus in a photoshop test my Apple II beats a Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz by 15 seconds.

    RSS works very similiar to browsing the web. RSS Reader requests RDF file from server. Server sends RDF file to browser. You would have to hack the server the RDF file sits on to send anything equivalent to SPAM. You're statement is completely WRONG!!!

    We have the post office handle deposits, because they will be verifying everybody's identity anyways. Now we just need somebody to run the program. I propose Tom Ridge, because he has done a knock-up job with the Homeland Security thing. (Don't you feel safer, I Know I do). And we should have someone ensuring there is no fraud. I recommend Donald Rumsfield, he seems to be a very honest politician.

    I am definitely a mac geek, but espn.com doesn't load sidebars on the homepage. It should, but it doesn't. Safari is definitely still a 1.0 browser. I like Camino, which uses Mozilla's Gecko Engine for rendering.

    When I think of popular games, I think of quake, half-life, so on. No 3D-game that needs a decent framerate is going to be written in flash. You are going to use, Direct3D or OpenGL to get things going fast on the graphics card.

    C++ is still a very viable language. I have not seen that many Visualization or Gaming Apps written in anything but C++. My only dislike of C++ is it's syntax. I personally think it is one of the ugliest languages ever. However, I do not let that beleif stand in front of the fact that it is still very useful.

    Nolo.com has a great book about software law which includes several prewritten contracts that contain alternative clauses. Each alternative is discussed so you can pick the right ones. It's not free, but at $30 its not that expensive.

    WebObjects is just slightly overated. There is little documentation, and when something goes wrong you are dependent on a fairly small community and apple for support.

    JSP and Tomcat are much better solutions. They is a large support community and they are FREE! Furthermore I have read about people running JBoss for EJBs. I have not actually done this myself yet, but plan to within the next couple of weeks. MySQL runs just fine. Personally I uese vi as my editor, but there are many IDE's to choose from, including IDEA's intelliJ IDE, which is an all Java IDE that supports code refactoring.

    Finally, I would like to say that when you're not programming, you will find OS X to be a great OS. Although it does not sound like a big deal, iTunes is almost reason enough to get a mac. I have never used an mp3 player that was so intuitive. Just make sure you have at least 256MB of Ram to handle the Aqua interface with some ease.

    The reason people use macs is not out of brand loyalty. They are easier to deal with and less hassle. And with OS/X should could run gimp if you wanted to make her. However, i don't know of many serious graphics people that use GIMP. Furthermore although a low-end mac may not stack up for clock-speed against your AMD machine, actual processor performance is not measured by processor speed, but i'm sure you already know that.

    Apple makes a great machine. I switched to using a mac, after erratic behavior compiling C++ Components for an ASP application. After I finished the project, i bought a mac, and haven't regretted it one bit. It has great Java support, i get unix, and perhaps the most sexy UI around.
