FreeDOS has its own FDISK, and there's R. Nordier's FORMAT (sometimes works better than FD FORMAT) on the site too. Keep a boot disk with kernel.sys, command.com, fdisk.exe, fd*.ini, format.com and possibly a copy of Ranish Partition Manager (you'll possibly need cwsdpmi too), and you'll be God. Trust me, it's been a lifesaver for me more than once.

You can tell I posted in a hurry, so I'll restate this more clearly; an x86 chip is still x86 no matter how it plugs into the mobo. It's not an issue that they're no longer going to be pin-compatible with an x86 - someone else says they make their own mobos, so they can make mobos for their own CPUs. No big deal.
But I have yet to see a *real* push away from x86. Just as well, because I am going to give up my dear old DOS when you pry it from my cold dead hands!!!
This country was founded with checks and balances on the populace itself, hence the electoral college. Sorry, but we were *not* "founded on the principle that the public could be trusted to rule themselves".
Have you not noticed that the DOS userland, at least in NT4, runs native as Windows console apps rather than running as DOS apps à la 95?

I have said and will repeat that legacy!=BadThing. Linux is based on proven technology, and improves upon its predecessors. That is why it's as good as it is. And it doesn't hurt that there are versions that can be packed onto 1.44 MB floppies.

Micro-C can be crammed onto a 720K floppy. Also, if you're really masochistic you can cram Turbo C 2.01 onto a 720K floppy as well. *g*
