Hillary's slogan "I'm with Her" was really just a euphemism for "I want a female president, it's our turn!"

More women than men have voted in every election for over 20 years. If you all got together behind a person, like the black vote did with Obama, you would have had a string of female presidents by now. Hopefully they do better than the high profile female CEOs who as a group have been a disaster.

Also, everything he described was infrastructure bought and paid for by tax dollars. Folks don't want to pay those taxes anymore and the infrastructure spending has more or less stopped. The build out of suburban America was financed by tax payers. They paid to pave the roads, run electricity, phone & internet, etc ,etc. They're done. They don't want to pay anymore.

As near as I can tell my taxes haven't fallen much. What has changed is that taxes on the 1% have fallen dramatically due to tax cutting, shifting things to capital gains, tax shelters, and keeping money overseas. What has also changed is that a dramatic drop in the middle class has meant that less taxes are paid by many people as they simply make less. If a greater share of the total income was taxed at middle class rates it would be a windfall for government coffers.

Unsure what I missed on Section 8. I'd cancel it tomorrow if it were an option. The tenants are probably rightfully hated by their neighbors since they are getting a nearly free ride. I believe that we are put on this Earth to do more than nothing or to just satisfy ourselves. Not saying that you have to dedicate your life to a cause but do something - anything. As long as there is litter to be picked up, elderly shut ins to be kept company, or any number of other good deeds there is work to do. If we're going to pay people to sit around (ie welfare, disability, etc) then we should get something for it. I would add that I'm not anti rich per se, I just think that they should pay tax rates that are in line with the rest of us. Capital gains tax rates for example are a scam. As for trust funds, to me they only make sense for people who cannot take care of themselves like a down syndrome child. Any moderately capable adult shouldn't qualify. Make each generation have to earn their wealth instead of hording it and you'll see a renewed interest in opportunity.

I think you meant to say that section 8 is a common type of scam where the poor and rich both benefit while the middle class is left holding the bag. It benefits the poor because they get housing at a *huge* discount. Their neighbors of course don't get that deal. It benefits the rich because they get guaranteed rent checks from the government. While I generally find UBI to be unrealistic in terms of the cost I can understand the anger behind watching the poor get ever more, the rich get bailed out, and the middle class told to get used to 3rd world wages. I like the idea behind universal employment. I love the idea of a wealth tax. Trust fund babies should see their trust funds taxed out of existence.

More and more this seems to really be a thing with the immigrant diasporas in the West, and it's going to bring multi-culturalism down hard. Multiculturalists like to say "well the Italians integrated you racist!!" Well, yes they did, but I also know virtually no descendants of Italian immigrants that actually think they're Italian, speak Italian and frankly give a shit what happens in Italy. It is more "cultural flavor" and closer to white Southerners being proud of their heritage than a truly distinct claim on ethnicity.

The key difference is that in prior waves of immigration being assimilated in terms of language and culture was pushed - and surprise surprise they did indeed become Americans. This was the melting pot idea and it largely worked. Now we coddle them, don't expect them to learn the language, don't expect them to follow the law (yes illegal immigration is illegal), and really don't seem to care if they "melt in". We don't look after the people already in the country but we can't wait to let more in. And we wonder why there is a cultural breakdown. Donald Trump is a warning, it really can get much worse if the middle class continues to decline and inequality guarantees opportunities only for the 1%.

No major candidate in the past 20+ years has done anything to halt the slide, though Bernie might have.

  22. Even intra-country immigration has all sorts of cultural problems. This is nothing new.

True on different regions of the country having different norms. However just because something is not new doesn't mean that it can be dismissed or ignored. Too much has changed in too short a period of time. The risk of a backlash grows. Between the cultural shifts and the mass inequality I expect that things will reach a breaking point in the next decade or two. The thing is when that breaking point is reached it will escalate very quickly since there is so much underlying tension.

  23. People are basically the same and in a global society things would settle down to one best way of doing things.

In my travels I've found that different cultures are most definitely a real thing and that while aspects of people are the same (ie we all eat and sleep) different areas most definitely have a different feel. On the plus side this makes the world a more interesting place.

On the down side, one of the friction points with the mass immigration to the US of people from South of the border are cultural differences. While the simplistic narrative is that all white people just hate brown people a more accurate description is that language separates people as well as cultural norms. When a large group moves in but doesn't want to adopt the language or local customs then friction inevitably results. Keep it up long enough and the US will break up just like the USSR did.

  24. Nope thats not how international business works. Union Carbide broke Indian safety laws and caused a gas leak which killed more people than Saddam ever did in his Chemical Weapons campaigns. Instead of standing trial the US embassy spirited out the Union Carbide execs in the middle of the night on a plane chartered for the embassy. Govts. support their multinationals even when they play hardball overseas.

What you mean is that elites look out for their own. I doubt the average citizen would care if a high level executive responsible for criminal level neglect was punished. The elite on the other hand do care and will bend the rules to protect their own no matter what. The sooner we get past arguing about social issues of little consequence the sooner we can get to the things of huge consequence - like a declining middle class and almost unparalleled inequality. This is why I consider SJWs the useful idiots of the 1%.
