Off topic but kinda cool that you are anti gun but without the need to ban them. Not unlike how a person can disagree with abortion, never personally have one, yet not feel the need to ban them. If only more anti gun folks would be content to just not own one the world could move on to debating more interesting topics... Like the DMCA;-)
Really most people who are _very_ one way or the other are simple minded. I've not met an intelligent person who was not left wing one one issue yet right wing on another. Both wings support some _really_ stupid idealogy if you look at all of their stances. To cite a point, if the left is so free thinking and open minded, did the California left recently try and ban all.50 caliber rifles? These had never been used in a crime, yet they were saying that this would help the public good. Doesn't sound like a free thinking group to me;-)
I think that this is quite inline with his previous positions - crummy. He is trying to make it legal to share the buying habits while setting the stage to later share the really private stuff. Besides, maybe Disney wants to share our buying habits;-)
Using your meager thought process your kids will not be able to ride bikes (might get hurt), drive cars (might kill the kid blaying ball), swimming polls are out (might drown), certainly shooting/archery/anything sharp is out (long live the dull spork). By trying to make life harm free, you really reduce life experiences. Plus, accidents will still kill them:-)
Let me guess, bay area liberal?
Why is it that the most contrived situations (kidnappings, medical situations involving odd alergic reactions, etc) are accepted as valid when considering this technology yet we'll outlaw every gun on the planet despite a large number of situations where they might be useful (ie if someone is breaking into your house the mere sound of a pump shotgun will make them flee)? When we're willing to allow our every movement to be tracked but unwilling to stop laws from eroding our existing rights we know that the end is near. As the saying went, those who trade freedom for security lose both. And deserve neither.
Didn't Canada outlaw all guns? I'm not an AK-47 waving gun extremist but I do enjoy shooting my.22s and a couple of muzzleloaders. Losing that would easily cancel my joy about being able to complain about companies/products.
Where I live far more people are killed by offroading motorcycle and quad flips than by guns, lets ban those. Most gun related deaths already involve illegal acts (ie drug dealing & gangs) so to ban them is useless in these cases. I'm always amazed how many anti-gun folks have never even shot one. Kind of like a person who doesn't drink advocating prohibition as a solution for all.
- Think for yourself
Ironically, many of us in the US are hoping that since our system is past corrupt that the foreign countries will save us by keeping their laws sane. Hasn't worked always but sadly it may be our best bet.
I doubt that the senators care at all unless they are near the 6 year re-election time. Most people have fairly short memories. The farther away from re-election I am, the less I need to care what my constituents think. I can always make it up later when the real crunch time is near.
The real solution is to allow people to repeal laws if they can get enough signatures. This is called referendum. If we had this ability, then we could have already had the DMCA up for a popular vote. It would lose quite handily in that arena. Unfortunately, this would require a constitutional ammendment. Still, we need to push for this. It's our best (and fastest) defence against the corps.
A real dungeon diver would love the 2 arcade D&D games (Towers of Doom and Shadow of Mystara (spelling?))that play on MAME:-) Those are quite fun and _free_
happy gaming
The reason why they chose to port over Delphi first was (probably) that the C++ Builder software that they have uses the work that they put in Delphi but with C++ wrappers. So if they can port over Delphi classes to Linux now the C++ version is probably close behind.
There is some good news. MS may be prosecuted in Europe, and the states may yet get somewhere. Despite being from the US, I think that Europe has much more common sense. Maybe they'll tackle the issue of what an abusive monopoly should be restrained with. They also seem more open to Linux:-)
I've found the SuSE update quite easy to use. I also have no fear of a BSA gestapo bursting through my door for some "violation of intellectual property".
I _never_ use the windows update for fear of how much information is sent and , more importantly, how it will be used, sold, and stored.
