    But what happened to all the good Republican candidates?

    They got starved out by the press because Trump sucked all the air out of the room. The same thing happened on the other side of the Ruling Party. Their last reasonable prospect was Jim Webb, but he couldn't get any attention with the press all working for Hillary to sink Bernie.

    all actual studies done on the topic say otherwise.

    Then those studies are either conducted by incompetent researchers or baldfaced liars, as anyone who's observed the effects of the dependency culture in the UK or the USA can plainly see.

    .., then a lot of them are going to do just that. Not only do the taxpayers lose the money stolen from them to pay those who want to be idle, the economy doesn't get the output that the idle would otherwise have to produce to support themselves.

    Expanding welfare payments to everyone is not a solution.

    Used BASIC , FORTRAN and Pascal in school ('76 to' 82), used Tandem TAL, 6502, Z80 and 68000 assemblers, FORTH, C, C++, and Postscript at various jobs until I started using NeXTSTEP in 1989, used Obj-C from 1989 to the present, and I started using Swift when it came out two years ago.

    So, Obj-C was my main language for around 27 years. I expect that Swift will be what I use from now until I stop coding altogether.

    Along the way, I also had occasion to use Perl, various shells, and a tiny bit of Python and COBOL.

    The fact is, that while Rockefeller was building Standard Oil, he brought down the price of kerosene from 58 cents/gallon in 1865 (when his market share was quite small), to 9 cents/gallon when he reached his peak market share of 90% in 1880. He performed a massive public service.

  25. More to the point, natural monopolies form in any market where there is huge advantages of scale, first mover advantages or large infrastructure outlays required. The services provided by water, gas, electric and gasoline distribution follow these laws.

    That's a lie. Utility providers claim that they have a "natural" monopoly to convince goverments to grant them monopoly franchises.
