Tim Kaine has been chosen as Hillary Clinton's running mate -- a man she called a "relentless optimist" who "devoted his life to fighting for others." Kaine has long been considered to be at the top of Clinton's short list. He was previously vetted for the vice presidency by Barack Obama in 2008. Kaine was an early supporter of Clinton's, appearing at a "Ready for Hillary" breakfast in May 2014 where he urged her to enter the 2016 presidential race. Kaine told NBC in June that he "encouraged her to run in May of 2014, because I could telescope forward and see some of the challenges that this nation would be facing. And I decided that by reason of character, by reason of background, and experience, but also especially by reason of results, she would be the most qualified person to be president in January of 2017." Prior to being elected to the Senate, Kaine served as governor and lieutenant governor of Virginia. In 2009, President Obama picked Kaine to lead the Democratic National Committee. Last week, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced Mike Pence as his VP running mate.

I am old enough to see things from a different prospective, my father was in WWII, so I don't toss around 'nazi' lightly. Trying to court moderate repugs who dislike Trump is more important to her than solidifying her own party, especially when it might make the big $$$ donors uneasy.

After the meltdown, the federal government "reformed" banking and the Federal Reserve (a private banking institution that pretends to be part of the government and whose paper money we all use) printed trillions of dollars and pushed that cash into the banks the results were entirely predictable: The banks got new money at nearly 0% interest, but were prohibited from making the risky loans they were previously ordered to make. Since they could only loan to people who could easily pay it back, they made cheap loans to rich people. Why would rich people need those loans? They did not, but money at historically low rates is a tool it's hard to resist. Wealthy people borrow the money and buy stocks. Ast the stocks rise in things like IPOs and mergers, they sell and pay the loan back along with the miniscule interest while pocketing the profits from the investment thereby becoming even richer. THAT is why the markets are SOARING. It's a HUGE bubble. The Dow Jones is headed toward double what it was on Sep11, 2001 but the economy is NOT nearly double what it was. The market is nearly triple what it was at the low-point of the meltdown, but the economy is NOT anywhere near triple what it was then. This is a complete disconnect. All that printed money of the Obama years MUST be reeled back in via raised interest rates at some point or else massive inflation will occur. If Trump wins, the Fed will raise rates on his watch as the Fed generally does when Republicans are in office, since most Fed managers are Democrats. If Hillary wins, they will hold the rates low as long as they can, but I doubt they will be able to hold that low through a second Democrat admin and the longer they hold low the worse the economic damage will be. The basic laws of economics cannot be avoided any more than the basic laws of phisics can.

For all the Democrat rantings about controlling or eliminating the "assault weapons", they have a mighty funny way of doing it: First they ship them to violent gangs by the truck load, then they stonewall all congressional attempts to get to the bottom of it (they STILL are) and their President asserts "executive priviledge" to hide documents and protect his people from having to testify under oath about the project....... even AFTER hundreds of civilians are killed with those exact exported guns and an American Border Patol agent is killed by one.
It seems the only people whose guns Democrats actually want to control are normal decent law-abiding American Citizens.
Liberal: "I want someone who'll fight for me."
Conservative: "I want someone who'll leave me the fuck alone."
Dividing everything into 'liberal' versus 'conservative' is highly corrosive substantive discussion.
