"In this 10-year time frame, I believe that we'll not only be using the keyboard and the mouse to interact, but during that time we will have perfected speech recognition and speech output well enough that those will become a standard part of the interface."
He has enlisted into the business his son, Aza, a 20-year-old college student who has clearly inherited his father's uncanny brilliance (he speaks fluent Japanese and will likely be courted by MIT and Stanford to do graduate work in quantum physics).
Raskin's ideas may be half-baked, but this bit proves this project is headed nowhere fast.
Nope, I'm not an AOL user, Kneo24. Just have a regular old AIM account (which I'm using via iChat).
I've read that AOL did a big guerilla marketing campaign for "9.0" -- which has gotta be the worst name ever for a piece of consumer software -- so I'm sure they're responsible, but have plausible deniability (through multiple layers of subcontractors).
A few weeks ago, I got spimmed by someone promoting the new version of AOL 9.0.
Sadly, I deleted the chat log just a few days ago, but here's a rough recollection of my conversion with AOL's marketing gimp:
archer97: downloaded 9.0 yet? mokolabs: nope archer97: it's pretty sweet archer97: check it out mokolabs: no thanks archer 97: it's a big upgrade mokolabs: do i know you? archer97: lol archer97: no
Has anyone else run into this? I'd love to spin this story back at AOL (who apparently approves of spim as long it's the one spimming).
Just noticed that some theaters are showing T3 in DLP format.
Should I try to see a DLP show? Or would a regular 35mm viewing be better?
(Of course, the benefits of watching an all-digital film like Finding Nemo on DLP makes perfect sense. But for a film that's mostly live-action, is it still worth it?!?)
I've launched a little website called iCalShare.com that's a directory of all the cool iCalendars people have made. If you've made a calendar that you want to share with a wider audience, iCalShare.com is the place to do it.
It's also a great place to find a calendar. Some of the calendars listed on the site include calendars for space shuttle launches, Mac tradeshows, Cocoa and WebObjects training courses, and UK Sci-Fi conventions.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

As inevitable as IP-based film distribution is, Vint Cerf talking with TWO movie producers isn't news and doesn't herald the dawn of a new age.
If Slashdot worked like Fark, we'd file this under... OBVIOUS.
Rather... The SELF worship of Jef Raskin as some sort of unparalleled visionary has no basis in reality.

Enjoy the 2 mil while you got it, Jef!
Um, yeah, you did.
But who is Number One? THAT is the question.
Not true. I got spimmed on AIM (via iChat) a few weeks ago. See my previous post for more info.

Actually... they've just announced plans to include a broadcast tower, which will expand the tower's height to as much as 2100ft!
WTC TOWER WILL NOW TOP 2,000 FT.
Anyone know if this'll run on the Mac version of UT2003?
FWIW, I'm leaning towards the DLP showing, just for curiousity's sake.
