It was announced that hell was actually "quite warm", even "uncomfortably hot". J Random Condemned was heard to say "There is often talk about hell freezing over, but that's not likeley. [Hell] is really hot!". Satan was not available for comment.
Optus@Home had terminated high-volume users, arguing they were in breach of an acceptable user policy. 'This product was advertised as unlimited and was targeted to high-end users, yet Optus used the presence of an acceptable user policy to terminate services to those very people to whom the product was marketed,' ACCC chairman Allan Fels said at the time."
Here in NZ, for fast connections (except in wellington where they have cable), we have two choices, an unreliable satellite down, dialup up thing, or ADSL. The only flat rate ADSL available is 128k, so I'm on that.
The service is advertised as 'unlimited', and when we signed up we steered clear of the slightly cheaper ISPs that had Terms + conditions saying 'excessive use == grounds for disconnection' type things. Recently, our ISP suddenly added such a condition to our terms and conditions. We could easily switch, but my parents didn't heed my advice about setting up a forwarding email, and a change in email would be a bit painful.
I thought the 128k cap would get us out of this. The cap is ~1.3G/day if totally utilised, we probably use about half that.
Nope. Your {ATM|security|library|etc} magnetic swipe card doesn't need to contain your information, just a little ID code that they can link up to their database.
Every person on earth can be assigned a unique ID 33 bits long (2**33 ~= 8.6E9). Six lines is more than enough to track everyone.
I'm trying really *really* hard to feel your pain, but here in auckland, NZ the fastest we can get at flat rate is 128k DSL. Anyone want to email me some bandwidth? (you can attach *anything* to a Eudora email:)
If there's one thing more newsworthy than guesses about computers, it's companies switching from Linux to Linux.
Okay, okay, I'm done trolling, I'll go read it now.
If you didn't NEED the cables, why did you BUY them?
Good idea! Dehydrated moisture can fetch up to $5000/kg on the black market!
*sends resume to sony*

PS... *oregon*!
The result will be that the sites will go not to the sites most deserving, but to those that can make the most out of them. .
I can picture it now...

And your graphics card sucks.
E-paper, e-paper, e-paper and e-paper! On the walls! On the ceiling!
Imagine reading /. on the ceiling while falling asleep, instead of at work! Now *that's* productivity!
I think we should have a topic dedicated to my really important rodent lab :)
Am I the only one who *really* wants to get their hands on a reader?

And it's more efficient than base 10. For even greater efficiency though, we should use base 3.
Why doesn't someone mod this as flamebait? He's obviously trying to get someone to mention the nazis.
Next time, sign up with mydomain@alxnet.com. That should sort them out.

This is just like the sad story of napster etc
Company: No, it's completely legal because you can use it for networking, which isn't at all illegal.
Feds: Okay then, implement some filters or something to stop people using it as a weapon
Company: But we'll lose all our customers!

Break my computer
Stick one on the net and offer a prize and you'll find out soon enough... if it doesn't explode due to a slashdotting :)
... if we called it 'Free Beer edition'?
I don't know about sexual preference, but to me it looks like it is you that is flaming, no?
KWin
magnetic borders for window resizing, gallium
At last! I'm so sick of gluing my windows in place, and the glue makes the screen blurry.
Hold on, don't magnets make the screen dark and erase the hard drive?
