I am currently taking a class on Sustainable Resource Sciences. Last week we had a lecture on composting. I can't believe that people pay the city to take their yard waste away, and then pay someone else money to buy soil amendments for their garden.
Here are some other links my professor provided: http://compostingcouncil.org/ http://www.oldgrowth.org/compost/
Or here is the lecture in pdf format
That HOWTO seems to ignore the best option for getting pretty fonts on X, Xft.
I am currently running Redhat 8.0 with an XFT version of Mozilla, and I must may my screenies are much prettier.
With Xft, FreeType, and some good TrueType fonts, I finally have a Linux desktop with fonts prettier than WinXP.
Making Vegetable oil isn't very difficult. You can buy high quality presses. Or even make your own. I mentioned this in a previous article, but From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank has instructions on not only how to make your fuel, but how to build a cheap oil press with a diesel engine of course:). This book also has really helpful tables on which plants will produce the most oil.
Not only that but it has a mini QWERTY keyboard on it.
It is not as fast, running a NatSemi 300mhz Geode, but is fast enough to use it as a portable DivX player, and MP3 machine. Not to mention portable network sniffer.
One major alternative fuel that appears to have been missed by others is Biodiesel. Biodiesel can easily be made with used fryer grease , and has none of the SOx or particulate matter emissions that normal diesel, or gasoline have.
The major benefit of biodiesel is that you don't need any major change in hardware. All diesel powered vehicles can use Biodiesel with no modifications.
I am a student at the University of Washington, and we recycle the used grease from restaurants by the university to fuel many of the campus vehicles.
One way to get around problems with reading digital information is to make your archives analog.
The Long Now Foundation is using analog technology for their Rosetta Disk project. This project aims to make a permanent archive of the worlds languages.
This technology is by far the best way to create permenant archives that will be impervious to all the problems associated with digital data.
phlak, although based on Morphix it has just about every security utility you could imagine.
mac flashing? Just use macchanger, it is uber-easy
