Is this a web app? I am assuming so since you are talking about ActiveX.

Looks like your up a creek without a paddle. The only other option is dynamically created images into HTML pages. Possibly using some DHTML or such for some minor interactivity. If this is not acceptable, then you will simply have to be honest and state that it is nearly impossible to do this job without requiring the user to install SOMETHING. One good note however, is that I believe Microsoft is required to distrobute the SUN JVM (at some point, barring their usual delay tactics), instead of their own, but SUN now makes it so easy to install with 1 click, why is it such a pain? Just direct your users here: java.sun.com/getjava

  15. You probably won't like this... on .NET or CORBA? · · Score: 4, Insightful

But to be quite honest, it is dufficult to give a proper recommendation without specifics.

    Here are my recommendations.

Look into Java for you system, mainly since you are stating you need cross-platform compliance.

You could use Java's RMI for this Jav architecture, which is the second fastest distrubited call framework available, and second only to sockets...SOAP, DCOM, and CORBA are respectably slower, CORBA being the slowest of the bunch.

If you want to go the C/C++ route, use SOAP, which will allow you to be extensible and allow you to be crossplatform and ready for whatever your pointy haired boss wants to throw your way next week.

I do NOT fully understand your necessity for OpenGL, nor do I understand the GTK requirement so my suggestions may be invalid.

If you are looking for a cross-platform distributed application framework, again, look at SOAP and/or Java both are proven technologies.

I FIRMLY believe SOAP has pretty much made CORBA obsolete.

    Flame on for my ignorance....

The general demo for Farscape is people that make roughly over $50k/year, those (us geelk generally), ususlly could care less about the $10 to take part in the survey, just like the telephone surveys...so...the demos usually reflect average lower-middle class and poor families who "generally" only care about Monday night football and WWE Raw.
