What this attack is doing is hitting sites that may utilize Google's' email campaign tracking features. They are probably taking advantage of sloppy developers who are storing the parameter values from the campaign locally for their own analytics, probably by building dynamic SQL. Now there could be some form of Open Source HttpModule code out there that actually does this auto-magically, which might account for why it's such a specific attack vector. So in reality it could affect MS SQL Server or MySQL, it's just so far they are just calling pages that have aspx on the end.
If Microsoft did the same thing, everyone who is saying "big deal" would be all over them like white on rice. In my eyes Google is no different than Microsoft, it's just they have a better PR department and it is working wonders for them right now, until people actually start questioning how and why they do things.
Seriously it's time that we as a people get our ducks in a row as it were and start funding things that are going to help all of the people all of the time instead of helping a dozen corps make money.
No let's be clear, Google is reluctant because it's Google's data and they don't want anyone (gov, private or public) to have access to any raw data they harvest regardless what it may be needed for.
Case in point: Right now Google is planning to use SSL when you use its search engines. Effectively making the referrer http header obsolete and screwing up other "Web Metric" companies since they no longer will be able to track keywords from Google. See Google's encrypted search casts shadow on web analytics
Viruses and disease is a way for mother nature to keep the balance of life, by taking this away we risk the possibility of killing off our species even faster. I only hope that I live long enough to watch 90% of the human population die because of our stupidity even though I may die as well it will be epic...
Pretty interesting site a 16m object (iron) using the default parameters would cause windows to shatter (due to airburst) up to 10km away from entry point. A 20m object would seem to cause some pretty bad ass damage to surounding areas even though the object never even reaches the ground (due to airburst).
I am a software developer and have not used a desktop since 2005, my current rig is a HP EliteBook Core Duo 2.4, 8gb of RAM and a 500gb 7200rpm drive running at 1680x1050, I run VM's as my dev environment and barely hear the fan running even when the VM is fired up. I guess if you buy consumer grade laptops to do dev work on then you probably will suffer with bad performance. Buy the right tool for the job and you will never have a problem no matter what you do.
People who like Andrioid hate the idea of mobile flash... ... Andrioid now includes flash... ... Apple does not include flash... ... People hate the idea of Apple's locked down platform... ... Either platform you choose, the people who are bitching about it are all hypocrites...
The workers also sleep on site, in factory dormitories, with 14 workers to a room. They must buy their own mattresses and bedding, or else sleep on 28in-wide plywood boards. They 'shower' with a sponge and a bucket.
Why is this different than any other company that has it's goods made in China. Maybe the OP and the articles author should watch the movie Manufactured Landscapes they would realize that this is pretty much the status quo for all factories in China no matter how big or small and what kind of goods they make. Hell even kitchen appliances are made in conditions like these so it's not just the tech sector that is to blame or one specific company.
Actually this is what I was thinking, it's not like Sony/the retailer is forcing them to update to the latest firmware, the users chooses to update and loose that functionality.
If Sony had been smart they would have written this in the agreement of the firmware update and have the user accept it before applying the firmware. I don't own a PS3 (I will never own another Sony product again) so maybe it's already there. If so then suing Sony might be a moot point I would think.
Microsoft boxes cost a good deal of money to keep running. I hear from friends and neighbors and coworkers all the time, that they've taken their machine back to the shop for this, or for that, and forked over another hundred dollars or more.
As a home user myself other than the initial cost of the computer I have not "forked" over any extra money to keep my network and it's computers running at all. So this would mean (once again) that it all comes down to administration. Linux by nature is more of a hands on OS, you need to actually read up on how to set it up while Windows you can just keep clicking "next" in a wizard and viola your system is up and running. I am pretty sure your friends and neighbors and coworkers are clueless and that is 75% of the problems with Windows users.
FYI my firewall/vpn/wifi AP/DNS/DHCP is an OpenBSD box so I live on both sides of the tracks.
Searching for the user name BonesSB came up with these two hits, both have to do with pot. I know that this is a long stretch but lots of people reuse the same user name for multiple sites. If it is the same user it would make sense that they would be worried about privacy based on the following links.
It's kind of funny how in the past Hollywood has been churning out movies about companies that run and rule everything about our lives. Maybe this is one of those instances where the fiction becomes more the fact.
I can see it now Google wants to put a settop box (GoogleTV??) in every house, running the latest ChromeOS it can then stream content and ads to you while you browse the internet and watch TV media and read Print media from your TV.
All you people bashing the advertising yet here you are commenting about it after the fact.
If the main goal was to make the actual advertising stick in your minds I guess it worked, and the marketers are smarter than you think. Even stupid ads seem to keep the interest about the subject. I guess the/. crowd is pretty much another form of "cattle to the trough" as they say in the biz...
Based on the little information on Wikipedia about High-Altitude Nuclear Explosion or HANE it would seem that the eventual blast of the devices would make their back to Earth and cause other issues. It's not as easy as just launch, sit back and relax.

And cops exist because of evil people. Oh what a intricate web we have woven for ourselves...
The title might as well be Apple versus Microsoft versus Google
Seems of late Google has been inching its way up the ladder.

Now NASA has found the cause of the issue: it was a single memory bit that had erroneously flipped from a 0 to a 1.
Let me guess they uploaded a new program that was based on Visual_Basic? The whole true = -1 thing can screw up any boolean logic...
Firefox has a large enough install base to actually stop or at least slow down H.264 adaption.
So you want to use your monopoly to force change?
How Microsoft of you...

All of the people who are bitching about the removal of the "Other OS" feature and how much they hate Sony now will be lined up to buy the PS4.

This based on the video:
1. The same wheel/traction design as Spirit
2. A rover that weighs 3x more than Spirit
3. The unknown Sedimentology of mars
Anyone else see what is wrong with this picture....

Just saying...
Microsoft wanted to rule your desktop, Google wants to rule everything else....
Or better yet Cyberdyne Systems...
