I have one of these and with a microdrive I did not get near that battery life. Admittedly, I used rechargables, which burn out more quickly but you will spend a hella lot in batteries if you don't use rechargables.
The sound is pretty good on it. And I dropped it once and it still worked. With a 128MB flash card the thing will run all day.
