Bush has signed an executive order that allows the Telcos to lie on their financial statements. It would be almost impossible to prove these programs existed without access to classified information. Another way to prove them, however, would be to detail how much money the telcos receive from the federal government. They are required to report this information to the SEC beecause they are publically traded companies.
Bush has signed an order that allows them to violate securities law. Worse off, he did this just a few days preceeding the USA Today article which implies that they had notice ahead of time that they were about to be exposed.
We are in for a world of hurt people. Say bye bye to the United States of America as we know it. This is fascism by definition.
The key thing though is "at a similar price to satellite." How about working on getting down to a similar price as their competition? I am paying $40 MORE with Cox than I was with Time Warner, for the exact same services. On top of that, the Cox service is of poorer quality(HD channels are compressed heavily), the DVR is harder to use and is significantly slower than the Time Warner dvr-box of the exact same model. Regardless of what DVR box they use, I think I would still rather go with DirecTV
Ok, so lets not think about the previous 30 years, lets look at the last 3 years. Lets focus on Iraq. Iraqis now have less access to electricity, clean water, and natural gas. The price of gasoline there is more than what we pay here before taxes. Whole cities have been destroyed. Over 100,000 people have died. Do you really believe they were all terrorists? Prior to the United States invading, they had electricity 24 hours a day in most cities, running water, and gas pipelines for providing gas for heating and cooking. Food was easy to get. Yes, there were problems, but generally it was a better society than it is now, you just had to keep your mouth shut and toe the party line. So how would you feel if a foreign country invaded your country and took away every creature comfort you had, and then killed your parents and your sister? Hmmm... lets see here... join a terrorist group.
Now we are threatining Iran, which is an elected democracy in every sense of the word (unlike Iraq's "democracy) and is surprisingly pro-west, with dropping nuclear bombs on them.
Yes, the world is a lot less safer because of George Bush. Specifically it is a lot less safer for Americans and for America.
There will not be an election in 2008, and the United States will slide into a form of dictatorship. And there is PLENTY of evidence for this if you open your eyes and do some reading.
Did you know that there is new legislation about to be passed that makes it a felony for any newspaper/journalist to publish a story about FISA, or about GWB's wiretapping program? That same legislation also makes it legal for the NSA to continue to spy on American citizens without a warrant, at any time, for up to 45 days, for ANY reason. Do you feel secure in your government not using it for improper purposes? If your answer to that was yes, you seriously need to read up on Nixon and why FISA was created in the first place. To add insult to injury, this new law also retroactively protects the government upto the date when President GWB began the warrantless wiretap program. So despite the fact that Bush broke FISA as well as the Constitution, Congress is giving him a get out of jail free card.
I could go on for days... just look at it this way, if you get most of your news from CNN, Fox News or any network news, you are getting about 25% of the story with all of the details just glossed over. If you care about the United States of America, you would be wise to find a different news source other than the ones owned by billionaires.
The question is... does Vonage's fax service work? In my experience... no it does not. I tried hard with several fax machines to get a fax to go over Vonage. Couldn't do it.
The only thing 2004 taught us was the unreliability of electronic voting machines. Without a paper receipt as proof of your vote, there is absolutely NO way to ensure that the outcome is accurate.
Can somebody explain what DIG is? Never heard of it.
Uhhh... you should look at the evidence and you might reconsider your position. A Boeing 757 doesn't leave ONLY an 8 foot wide hole in a building. Hell... one engine is bigger than that.
Sites like those are making those claims specifically because the evidence that the USA has put forward does not jive with what was observed by people in the vicinity. Ie. pictures of the pentagon taken shortly after it was hit... As I said... a Boeing 757 with a 100+ft wingpsan and 2 huge jet engines, does not ONLY leave an 8 foot hole in a building. But hey... its a free country (for a short while longer at least.) Believe what you want to believe, regardless of the evidence.
I used to work with Aircell on a daily basis, to the point where I had a constant VPN connection into their NOC. The idea that cellphones interfere with an airplane's avionics is absolute horseshit. IT IS A PLOY USED TO SCARE PEOPLE INTO COMPLIANCE.
The real problem with cell phones in the air is this: cellphones rely on line of sight to a cell tower. If you are on the ground, there are plenty of obstructions that prevent your cell signal from going more than a mile or three. But in the sky... your signal can go on for dozens of miles. So if you are 5 miles up in the sky and your signal can propogate for 25 miles, how many cell sites are in a 25 mile radius? A LOT. So now instead of being connected to only 3 or 4 cell towers when on the ground, you are now connected to a few hundred when in the air, which causes allocation problems on the cell company's network. Now, just because you are connected to a cell site does not necessarily mean you can receive or send a call. But, the cell site still registers your phone on the network and allocates you space on the cell site's limited, finite number of connections available. The only reason cell phones are illegal in the sky, is because of technological problems with the cell site's hardware. Aircell found a unique way to solve this problem.
I just got a Network Admin job with a Fortune 500 company and I am straight up Mexican. I even look Mexican. I think it all comes down to having the right education, credentials and reccomendations. And a security clearance helps too!
I don't know about you guys, but I have leased DVR boxes from Time Warner for the last 2 years and in that time I have gone through 6 DVR boxes and 5 HD-DVR boxes with the 5 HD-DVR boxes being consumed since August. If I had to buy a new one each time it broke, I would be poor. With Time Warner I just drive down to their office and get a new one. $1,000 says that no consumer electronics manufacturer could top that. You would probably have to mail it in at a cost of $20, then wait for 1-2 weeks to find out if its eligible for warranty repair, and then another 2-6 weeks for it to be repaired and returned to you. I always thought home-brewed DVR systems were a waste of money because I have had such excellent service from Time Warner. But if I have to buy these things, consumer electronics manufacturers can suck my left nut.
While it is definitely possible to do it to a helicopter, but has anybody realized that it would be nigh near IMPOSSIBLE to shine a laser pointer into the cockpit of an airliner, particularly into the eyes of the pilot? Look at how far back in the cockpit the pilot sits as well as the angle from his head over the instrument dash and into space. An airliner's cockpit windows are designed for visibility of the sky around the plane, not the ground. While this dumbass deservers a prison term, it is 100% asinine to use terrorism laws here to impose 25 years.
When will people understand that government is not concerned at all with common sense. If it was the drug war would not have been waged, we would not be in Iraq right now, America's kids would get a much higher quality education, and some level of health care would be provided for all. Government concerns itself only with the personal opinions of those in power. Of course, these personal opinions are open to influence by lobbyists, campaign donors, religion, and of course plain old self-interest. Public-opinion for the most part only comes into the picture when it affects re-election, otherwise it is of little concern.
I have been with Vonage for 6 months now and have had no problems. I have 4 lines through them with no problems at all, including fax. It also cut my phone bill by about 1/2 because all of the long distance calls I made are all now included.
I hardly doubt the end of physical media is near. Right now video on demand services offer a very limited amount of movies available, and are not available in High-Definition (HDTV). I can't even get Dumb and Dumberer on Time Warner's Video on Demand service. Until just about every movie is available on demand, and until its all available in Hi-Definition and with at least dolby digital 5.1 sound, I will be sticking to DVDs and I am sure a LOT of audio/video-philes are with me on that.
I would much sooner go with a DS3 which to my understanding is about $5000 a month. For each home that works out to about $35 a month. I would find out first which homes in the community are interested and then find the cost to each home using the chosen technology. Ethernet might be good, or you can setup your own DSL ISP for the community. It would probably be wise to setup a co-op or non-profit corporation to organize costs and the collection of money for monthly bandwidth costs.
No, you are right. If the economy was up R & D spending would also be up. R&D expenditures are in investment in the FUTURE whereas holding onto the cash and investing it in areas that give an immediate return help bolster the bottom line NOW. With the economy in the shitter companies I believe are holding back on unnnecessary R&D because if they spend the money they might not be able to meet or beat analysts expectations. With so many executive's compensation tied directly to company/stock performance if I were in this situation I would only spend money on R&D that I could afford to lose because R&D is a gamble not a gaurantee. Right now companies cannot afford to throw money away.
I have a dynamic IP address for my cable modem but it has not changed in over a year. My ISP (Time Warner) doles out IPs via MAC address. As long as your MAC address stays the same, you will get the same IP address each time.
A few people have questioned the towers necessary for this as well as have mentioned amplifiers. In San Diego, the hill at Pt. Loma has a large antenna tower on it. Perfect. San Clemente Island is no slouch on the altitude either. Another thing to take into consideration is that San Clemente Island is a military installation. The entire island is owned by the US Government. I wonder just how much they are respecting the 1 watt limit on 802.11b considering that the signal beam would be so small that interference would be nill.
IMO, the fact that the librarians refused to discuss the matter of the FBI tapping the computers and stuff like that is solid evidence that the FBI is IN FACT doing it. If the FBI was NOT doing it, the Librarian would have said straight up the FBI has not contacted us and is not bugging anything. IMO, the fact that the librarian refused to talk about it, shows that she has been briefed by the FBI on what to say if questioned about the bugging.

Wow, if you really believe that they are only spying on 'foreign nationals,' you are a sucker.
Or was all of that just a bunch of BS?

At least the Russians are being honest about it though.

I, unfortunately am working too. But for 1.5x overtime pay, on top of the 8 hours regular holiday pay, I am not complaining one little bit.
