Since this article is about servers: people who buy them do care if something is faster than something else at the same clockspeed, if it uses less power, and if it has a 32- or 64-bit architecture. And in that market, way more than 1% of the customers don't run Windows.
Originally slated to be operational this year, construction of the massive project won't begin until 2006 at the earliest, said Roger Davey, chairman of EnviroMission Limited, the Melbourne, Australia, company behind the venture.
Watch an animation of what EnviroMission's Solar Tower will look like.
But the purchase of the farm, which cost $1 million, near Mildura, Victoria, is a "very big step" in getting the project built, Davey said.
So far, the main impediment to building the tower has been the cost, with estimates ranging from $500 million to $750 million.
So they basically bought a sheep farm and made an animated movie.
25000 acres should be something like 10 kilometers squared, if I have my unit conversions in order. Surely they have enough empty space in Australia for a whole bunch of these towers.
I'm more concerned with what happens to the climate of they start blasting all that hot air high into the atmosphere.
While this was a joke, I do find the version with the short variable names clearer and easier on the eye. It is obvious from context that i is a loop index and that n is the number of items.
In a real program, n probably has some specific meaning other than "number of items", and then it should have a descriptive name.
Some asian pirated DVD's are good, some are filmed with a hand camera in a movie theatre and some don't work at all. The quality varies to say the least.
Precisely. You can only annoy your users so much before they start looking for alternatives. I'm pretty sure that people who want to run Windows for free (I'm not one of them, I run Windows legitimately when I have to) will figure out how to do that anyway. That leaves customers who have to jump through hoops just so they can use something they bought and paid for.
I agree completely that this technology is useful and should be more secure than what we have today if it is used right. But it is surely a problem if someone can swipe your card without your knowledge while it is still sitting on your keychain. A small amount among a whole bunch of other small amounts in a month has a good chance to go unnoticed.
I actually thought it was a bit annoying that I couldn't use "real" Linux wlan drivers with my new laptop. Ndiswrapper works fine (I'm using it as I post this), but it is a compromise that not all are comfortable with. If I were RMS, I wouldn't be able to use this computer at all.
I, too, have an Athlon64 with accelerated NVidia drivers and I can certainly drag and resize windows with no problems whatsoever.
X hasn't sucked performance-wise in years.

To have any fines at all for displaying nipples on television is ridiculous.
How can that possibly be stable? Wouldn't the slightest deviation lead to the moon coming crashing down in either direction?

You know, that made no sense at all.

- convert to something else
- download the movie
Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just copy the *.vob files to the computer?I actually thought it was a bit annoying that I couldn't use "real" Linux wlan drivers with my new laptop. What the **** are "Tomboy, F-spot, MonoDevelop, Muine & Blam!"? I have never heard of a single one of those programs.
